Default Useful Info for New Members

This thread is for all of you new members who have just joined us here.
This forum has been around now since December 2003.
MANY of the same questions have been asked over & over again.
Hopefully, in this one thread, you can have some of your questions answered all at once.

1.) There are NO performance chips for the Crossfire that are worth a dam_. In order to gain performance you need to yank your ECU & get it tuned by one of many reputable firms out there.

2.) There are several CAI (cold air intakes) available. ALL offer a performance boost regardless if your car is a SRT or a N/A (normally aspirated; in other words, not supercharged). Probably the first mod. you should try & they all will boost your horsepower & your gas mileage. Very few other mods. will offer a two-pronged ROI (return on investment).

3.) Sprint boosters DO NOT add horsepower. They do offer a quicker response from your car when you stomp on the pedal; gas pedal, that is.

4.) Pick the tires you like. If you have the money then feel free to gravitate towards the more expensive brands. Our cars do not perform all that well in the snow so if you live in a part of the country that experiences this kind of weather than be practical & go with all-season tires or snow tires if you must drive your car in the snow. Beyond that, search through the forum to obtain some advice from members if you have doubts about one brand vs. another.

5.) This is a forum of those who are lucky enough to own one of these cars & therefore you will notice many more threads posted about issues or problems with our cars. These cars are fairly trouble free with a proven engine that will last darn near forever. Please don't assume that, since all you apparently read about are problems, that this should reflect on the majority of the cars out there on the road today. They are durable & extremely drivable.

6.) Only one firm in the U.S. is currently experimenting with turbocharging our cars. Do not assume that you can go out & buy a turbo off the street & get it to work without serious modification done to your engine & the electronics.

7.) Exhaust mods. will not give you much, if any, of a gain but do sound nice! There are headers out there available for our cars but they are expensive & offer little in actual horsepower increases.

8.) Yes, replacing the headlamps is an incredible pain. Excellent primers exist on this forum for those of you who'd like to try & replace your own. Search for them & then have some fun!

9.) Brake dust is a common problem with the original equipment brake pads on our vehicles. You will notice that your wheels can get covered VERY quickly with a fine black powder! Many Crossfire owners have replaced the original pads with ceramic or Kevlar based pads. Personally, I've had excellent success with Rotex Gold pads but many other alternatives exist. Search for "brake dust" & you will find well over a hundred threads on the subject!

10.) Many threads have been written about our over-engineered cup holders (our European friends do not have this issue!). There are alternatives available for those who would like to replace it with something less challenging.

11.) Our oil changes are expensive! Our cars take 8.5 quarts of synthetic oil & require an oil change & filter replacement every 7000 miles. If you are a do-it-yourself'er then the search feature will become your friend since, once again, excellent threads exist on this subject. 0W-40 is the recommended weight requirement for our cars. If you choose to try something different then feel free to do so but the risk is yours to own!

12.) The "search" feature works fairly well. No, it's not as good as Google but it is adequate. You may have to experiment with different search terms but, once mastered, you'll find a plethora of useful information on just about anything you can imagine. Oh, you'll probably have to read through entire threads sometimes to find something you're looking for. Get used to it, it can be enlightening. Patience IS a virtue!

13.) If you post on this forum with the idea that you know more than anyone else here you'll be in for a big surprise. This forum hosts members with all levels of experience in cars. Many of us have been around for awhile & have driven things that will only exist in your imagination. Please don't come on here with a big head.

14.) Since we can only communicate on this forum with the "written" word & not face-to-face, it becomes important to be able to 'write' so that others can understand what you are trying to say. The forum has a spell checker application that can be downloaded for free for those of us that are spelling-challenged. Please try to refrain from using cell phone-based text abbreviations. Many here won't have a clue as to what you are attempting to say.

15.) If you use this forum frequently please consider becoming a sponsor. CLICK HERE for more details
For a few bucks you too can help to maintain what is one of the best & least cluttered forums in existence and enjoy the forum without the annoying pop up adds.

16.) The forum helps sponsor several GTG's (Get Together s) throughout the country. Consider driving in one sometime.
You get to meet fellow Crossfire owners & have fun doing what you're going to do anyways, drive your Crossfire!

To see what might be going on near you or somewhere you are willing to travel to see our listings in the
Crossfire Meets section.
Also feel free to post a meet in this section if you choose to plan one yourself.

Above all, utilize the "search" feature often
& when you've exhausted your attempts to find an answer about something then feel free to post a question.

Thanks for reading through this post and I hope it might have answered some of the questions you already had on your mind
