A car with ruined paint could become any color and there are some great dark blues produced now.
Any of the colors mentioned would be safer than black given the exclusive factory line used to construct the fastest Crossfires only had the black option and slower is often safer. I imagine a repaint of of a black car would likely only make it look less fast, though.
My 1998 Volvo V70R had a similar sliver/blue, Mystic Silver. The name captured the specialness of the color well, I thought.

Like PNA pointed out, Machine Grey is the closest color the Crossfire offered that comes close to being dark blue.
With the installation of a white top, it would suck the metallic right out of the paint, so it would probably look even more like dark blue.
Sounds like the OP has already made up his mind on the Miata, it's going to wind up costing him more money, but they still are great cars so good luck to him.
