2006 Crossfire in Southern Indiana
2006 Crossfire in Southern Indiana
Just bought this today and have quite a bit to learn about it. Big surprise, no cup holder. This is a Limited with 61,100 miles on it with a six speed transmission. I'm retired and I think this will be my last sports car so why not? My first question is, how do I get the little compartment in the console to open? It's the one that's around 1 x 4 inches behind the shifter. The car came without an owners manual so I've already downloaded one on here. Thanks for that.

That "little compartment" is most likely the infamous cup holder.
You press down on the front of it, and if it's still working it will spring up 90 degrees.
To close it again, you squeeze the top of it which releases the latch, then press it back down.

Welcome to our Forum. You'll love this car more & more every time you drive it. And the looks from passersby will be priceless.
There are many of us that never use the cup holder for a variety of reasons. And many of us have replaced it with the "storage bin" that was used on certain XFire models. Much more practical than the cup holder.
Enjoy!

Found the coin holder. I'll probably change the oil and filter soon even though the dealer (Nissan) claims to have done it. I can see them skipping the oil filter since it's unique. There is some bubbling on the rear spoiler and some clearcoat is missing on the windshield chrome and rear bumper so I need to deal with that in the Spring. Fun so far.

I haven't found the battery yet. I haven't had time to open the hood yet now that I think about it. It did seem slow to turn over today (30 degrees). Does anybody recommend anything other than Mann filters?

Re: 2006 Crossfire in Southern Indiana
When these cars have a weak battery any number of mechanical problems will present themselves and you dont even want to allow that to happen.
The common sign of a weak battery will be ....When you crank your car over to start it ...the wing on the rear raises for no apparent reason.
If you do replace your battery there are many that have been said to fit and others are said to fit and then dont because they are either to short or to tall
I have had my Crossfire almost 10 years and I have replaced mine twice
My battery of choice is the "Interstate" brand
This is the exact one that will fit perfectly and last 5 years

This is the best choice for an oil filter for your Crossfire
It is not paper and is made of a higher quality material known as "fleece"
Then just be sure that Full Synthetic oil is used and you need to use 0W-40
Preferably Mobil 1
The filter should be available at most any auto parts store or online and the oil is cheapest and available in 5 quart containers like these at most Walmart stores.
Our owners manual will say to fill your engine with 8.5 quarts but I find that to be a bit to much.
I suggest you only fill with 8 quarts and drive a few miles and then check it again in the morning.
I'm sure you will find 8 quarts to put your oil level to full on the dipstick

I suspect a Harbor Freight store will have a washer kit, and for $15 you will get an assortment with more than one which will fit.
ECS Tuning ( I think it is www.esctuning.com) has the washer for $1.39; use the search by car feature and 2003 Mercedes SLK 320. On the sub-menus it will be "oil service".
Many of us here do not remove the plug. We do the entire oil change from above by using a mityvac evacuator or some other vacuum pump. Makes the job easier without oil spills or the need for the copper gasket. Those pumps come in different sizes, so be sure to get the larger at 2.3 gallons.
P.S. If you click on the esc link it will take you to a bunch of BS advertising thanks to this web site. Copy and paste into your browser it will take you to ESC tuning web site. Good Luck.

If the battery in your car is white it is more than likely the original one.
