Out here.
It would seem the life has left the party. Sad. Both previous meets were awesome events.

With 50 states and thousands of Crossfires Across America you would think this could happen again

St.Louis and Denver are great memories. Two completely different CAA's but equal in enjoyment. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Contact Erzer or itsky
They can assist you with your questions here.
The host pretty much needs to set up a block of rooms at a local hotel and secure a group rate and then plan out some daily driving routes and activities for those who attend. Also find some restaurants thats can accommodate parking and guests for lunch and dinner.
Reno is a beautiful area...I encourage you to give it some thought.

Pretty much covers it.

The events do not have to be about cars but should be.

It is really about getting together and having fun with like minded friends.

That said, I'll wager that Reno has a few mountain routes to places of interest. And maybe it is far enough west that the SO-CA group will show some interest.

There are some really great drives around here! Some really fun to drive as well as beautiful to take in. Short 45min ones to Virgina city, Nv and longer 1-2 hour ones to berney falls, ca.

Form So-Cal the best drive is the old 395 from reno to san diego. It is a long drive but you get to see the land go from coastal to low desert, to high desert to mountains. It is really amazing!

Let me run the idea by the wife, if she does not mind helping me organize everything I will contact the two members you refered me to.

And me as well.

If the wife hadn't threatened divorce I would be pushing to host here again.
A lot of work but it was fun, with a capital smile.

The wife actually wants to plan it. We noticed alot of these happen in April. That would be a no go for reno and the surrounding area. We will still have snow on most of the fun drives. Around mid July it has usually all disappeared. August would be great. We would want to do it after hot august nights. Unless everyone would want to see that car event. All the prices every where shoot up. But then it would have to be scheduled before street vibrations. Prices shpot up again and all the roads are once more crammed... Also want to miss the rib cook off... Again all the roads and hotels are full. Mid august though would probably work great. All the roads are open and all the road construction should be done.

I shot a PM to Erzer as suggested. I think that was Yesterday or the day before expressing interest in doing it here or around here.

We were not sure how far of a drive people really like to do. I mean we could even do a drive to Yosmite from Reno. It is only 214 miles away on the 395 or a really great drive is to take the 88 at about 250 miles. Depends on if people would be up to a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive. There are also some great 2-3 hours drives. Being in the Sierra Nevada mountains there are just some really interesting routes to take through the mountains. I actually like to do a round about way up to Tahoe Lake where you get to go through some of Northern Ca farm lands nestled in the Valleys. The roads can be boring and straight in places (patrolled by planes.) But it is just really beautiful to be in the Norther Dessert, then by little valley lakes, then farm land, then wiz through some mountain forests only to end up at Tahoe.

Just depends on the time of the year where it is best to go. Tahoe can get really really congested and impossible to find any kind of parking for even a group of 2-3 cars. But that also depends on the time of day. And even if it is Mid August you will want to bring Sweaters or light coats depending on the drive. Even if it is 100 during the day it can get down into the 50s at night depending on if you are around a lake or what altitude you are at. Reno will be in the 70s-80s most nights, Tahoe chiller around 50-60 with breeze off the lake, Yosmite can be really cold when you are at around 9990 ft, but warm when you hit the valley floor around 4000 ft.

So if Reno happens and the area is settled on Zo (my wife) and I will give an idea of what people should bring to wear. And it really depends on the year. Last year we had winter until early July, the year before winter was over in March. We are just currently getting our winter storms for crying out loud (2 months late!)

People are their to "Drive" there cars. Have some local tour events of interesting history or famous venues as well as some long scenic drives. Let folks chose.

In my case it is a 2,200 mile one way for me from St Louis. That 700 miles a day to get there. Another 250 miles a day, by comparison, is a cake walk. Road trips should start early in the AM and end near sunset. Pre select some lunch and dinner restaurants.

Set up a hotel with some discounted rooms in a block. Fine three routes to drive and see scenery and two local places to visit. Set it up on weekdays so the traffic volume is lower. Tie it close to a weekend
Have a local company make up some stickers for you, get 50;100 or so Coffee mugs and some cheap Tee shirts with CAA 2012 on them, you got the event covered.

Southern Cal and the northwest groups ought to produce 20 cars. The rest (10 to 30 cars) will come from crazy folks, (you know like Sandgrounder! ) out of Canada and the Mid west. Easterners, not so much. Although I can suggest some of them are certifiable.

Rooms are the easiest thing to set up here. There are plenty of Casino/hotels top choose from and if people want to stay somewhere a little out of the way we could stay at one of the many lodges around the lake. If everyone is on board my wife and will start calling our contacts and friends to find good deals. Anytime between August 12-24th would work for us (we will just miss tail end of Hot August nights.) The 9-11th will be pretty busy up at Tahoe with the wooden boatshow but we can avoid most of that. So just give us an idea of what dates would work best for the most people. We both make our own schedules for the most part so we are really flexible.

I have changed the title on this thread and created a poll to gage interest in attendance.
I really hope this idea takes off and it sounds like a wonderful place to hold a CAA event.

Also if we have it up at Tahoe it may be a bit more than the $75 ish a night people are use to paying. We would have to move it down into the Reno Valley. Tahoe we would be looking at at least $100-$150 a night even with group rates.
