That's not a "factory" sleeper. That is just a modded car. There are many cars that are modded sleepers out there.

No the point was a car manufacturer producing an off the show room sleeper. It is a much more rare thing when a major car manufacturer does it. Like the Omni or the Regal T-Type. You just don't expect they would approve, fund and engineer such a thing at the top executive level all the way to the showroom.
Modded sleeper cars are not all that special. I had one I should know. I had a 300hp Mazda MX-5. It was fun and it was a blast upsetting guys in Vett's and Porsches but it was not a "factory sleeper" and therfore not the same.

You are correct. I was just commenting on a previous post. The P T turbo is though.

PS.. I definitely consider the SRT-6 a factory sleeper. People have no idea what they are getting into when they race one.

Fine, but the point also wasn't to mention factory sleepers then poke fun at them. But it's still a Spirit. But it's still an Omni. THAT is the point of a sleeper - a car that no one expects because it has an otherwise very boring reputation.
And, as Call911 has pointed out, the bone stock PT Turbo is a factory sleeper. I've taken down Mustang GTs with mine at the drag strip.

I think anyone who would knowingly pull up on an M5/M3 without something special under the hood needs a good mental exam. The M line is a beast and should only be played with by the most experienced of car drivers.

Well I don't know if the "most experienced" is true or not but it is one blast to drive.

OK! HERE YUH GO! When I was a in high school, I had an Austin Healy Bug eyed Sprite with a 283 c.i. V8 in it
It had a four barrel carb, a GMC three speed on the floor, an Oldsmobile rear end and XKE steering linkage. A friend of mine saw it blow off a GTO one night, and when he told me, I knew I just had to have it. The only tip offs were the sound and the larger rear wheels. I bought a small fortune in after market performance parts but had to sell them off when a college part time job wasn't enough to pay the bills. The car went next. I had dreams about building a Triumph Spitfire with a Ford 289, but that never happened. This is another reason I love my SRT6, same formula, small light car lotsa horsepower.

My vote is on the BMW M5 Touring, which has a 500hp V10 with individual throttle bodies.
Sick.

Anyway, remember the 'K' cars? Well the Dodge Spirit R/T was a real sleeper with 224 turbocharged HP!
THE ORIGINAL SRT-4!!!! The car below is owned by a guy named Wallace and with his upgrades, he put down 421 wheel hp and 457 lb-ft of torque at 21 psi! Now that my friends, is a REAL sleeper of a grocery getter!

I always wanted a 92 Spirit R/T..........one of 191 built that year(1208 total for 91/92). When it was still on showroom floors it was faster than BMW's(then)current M5!!!
Another rare sleeper is the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4(awd turbo)
2009 328i
2005 Crossfire SRT-6
2004 Ram 1500 Hemi
1989 D50 4x4 Turbo (project)
1955 C3-B8-116(super delayed project)

The Spirits were built on either an A or AA platform, don't remember which one but it was derived from the K platform.
The R/T certainly had performance for it's time. The car was also fairly civil, roomy, got good mileage, and had a decent build quality.
The major letdown of the R/T, and all of the Spirits, is the paint job. Chrysler either used a poor primer or no primer at all, but the end result is that many of these cars today sport more metal than paint. When new mine looked as good as the pictures above, now it's just a mess. It's bad enough to get me all teary eyed .

Take advantage of it. Go to the local Pull a Part and get all the stock Spirt trim and then go out and destroy the local ricers !!! A true "sleeper" indeed
