Default 2003 Bugatti Veyron

Got this off vwvortex.com..

After years of teasing us with design studies of various conceptual Bugatti vehicles, Bugatti, under the ownership of Volkswagen has issued the first official photos of the Veyron model. The 1001hp quad-turbo 16-cylinder sports car will go on sale later this year for an undisclosed amount of money rumored to be over $650,000.

Under the direction of former VWAG boss Dr. Ferdinand Piech, the new Bugatti sports car had to have more than 1000hp and a return to a 16-cylinder powerplant. What resulted was two W8 engines mated end to end and forcefed by a total of 4 turbochargers to produce exactly 1001hp DIN horsepower. The new 16-cylinder Veyron should reach a top speed of more than 400 km/h (248 mph) and accelerate from 0 to 300 km/h (0-186 mph) in under 14 seconds. That top speed incidentally is electronically limited because of the tires, which themselves are custom made for Bugatti and rated to 400 km/h.

As on Formula 1 and Le Mans racing cars, the load-bearing chassis of the Buagatti Veyron is reinforced with carbon fibre for maximum strength and rigidity as well as minimum weight. The outer skin of the body is of mixed aluminium and carbon-fibre construction. The W16 turbocharged engine, which has dry sump lubrication and four continuously variable camshafts, surpasses the power output of current Formula 1 engines. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a paddle-shift seven-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) with twin clutches.

The Veyron's special tires utilize the new Pax system developed by Michelin. These special high-speed tires have a pressure monitoring system and run-flat capability, so that safe handling is maintained and the car can be driven for more than 200 kilometres (124 miles) in the event of pressure loss.

The Bugatti Veyron will likely take its place in supercar history and carry the legend of Ettore Bugatti into a new modern Bugatti roadcar.

Thought i would post this up.. im not much of a chrysler fan.. more of a VAG fan..

later..

Wow 4 Turbos!
Wonder if they went with 1001hp to have 1 more hp than the Caddy 16 which will have 1000hp in its 16cylinder engine. Both cars have impressive stats.

$1,000,000 and close to its 1000bhp mark. However a "Sport" version is rumored to appear later. A weaker 650bhp version for about $650,000 is susposed to be offered.

Actually, that 1001 hp was based on the Enlgish system of calculating hp, the actualy hp as calculated here in the states is around 987. Not bad, but not a Caddy 16.

The only thing that keeps this car from being a fantastic looking car is that Butt Ugly grille. :x

I saw the Veyron at the 2003 Paris Auto Show. It's a stunning design (like it or not) with numbers to match. Still, I had to vote for the Bentley Continental GT as the car I'd most like to own.
