Raced the BMW 335i at the 1/2 mile yesterday - WannaGoFast - Clayton, GA
Yesterday I raced my '07 335i at the WannaGoFast event in Clayton, GA. The air felt great with a nice breeze and temps in the low 70's, but due to the humidity and elevation the DA was in the low 4K's per my Kestrel.
Below are my mods and the tuner is Wedge Performance. The car ran very consistently, with two identical speeds to the 100th. I ran three 139's and a 141 after a cool down. The car would run much faster at a sea level event such as Ocala, FL. Unfortunately the printer wasn't working on my lane, so they were handwriting the results.
- Catless DP's
- 7" intercooler
- BMS Intake
- Fuel-it Stage 2 LPFP
- E60 File

Here are the three datalogs I logged. I neglected to log the third run.
139 mph - E60 Base file - datazap.me | Wheelus928 | Log 1442179474
139 mph - E60 file with vanos changes - datazap.me | Wheelus928 | Log 1442179474
141 mph - E60 Base file after cooldown - datazap.me | Wheelus928 | Log 1442179474

Oh, and by the way, there was a Green Crossfire SRT6 at the event.

Hope you make it again next year.
Thanks and yes. The dyno thread below is with a milder tune.

Thanks Les, it's getting there. Need some mid to high 140's next year for sure.

By the way, here's the new million dollar Porsche 918 racing. It was hitting 170-175 mph.

Here's the ZR1 Corvette that caught on fire and a link to the owner discussing it on the Corvette forum: Well my motor decided to exit the building - Corvette Forum

Awesome runs, Anthony!! I'm really impressed with what you've been able to extract from this thing.
Hated that I couldn't make it this year... had a family function that I couldn't miss.
If all goes as planned, I'll be racing next year

Thanks, John. I'm looking forward to you rejoining us next year. Do you have a short list of possible cars yet?

If all goes as planned, I would really like to get into a 2008-2009 SLK 55 AMG
It simply checks all of the boxes for me... 2-seater, rare(ish), European, hard-top convertible, 12-second car from the factory, decent aftermarket options, and excellent sound. I've seen several in the low $20K range with reasonable mileage. Those cars are like the Crossfires... lots of OEM pieces from higher-end MB's will swap over, and enhance the interior and performance. The M113 motor is a tank. The R171 design is timeless and still looks fresh (I actually prefer it to the R172).
I've considered a C63 but they're still quite proud of those as well. And I want to do occasional track days... the C63 is 4,000 pounds. Not interested in any other MB sedan.
Not interested in Audi at all.
Bimmers... I'm not opposed to them, but honestly, I'm very ignorant about them. I like the E89 Z4, but they're SLK55 money and not as quick (stock).
I haven't completely ruled out another Crossfire... and shockingly enough, if I went back to the old shoe, it would be a 2006-2008 Limited Roadster with the 6MT. It's slow, but engaging.
And familiar.
And cheap.

Glad you liked it.
I like the SLK55 also. Just don't let Steve advise you when it's time to buy rotors. He'll want you to spend a grand on each instead of $75.
I do, actually.

Rotors are cheaper on 07 and up. No longer a 2 piece design
Re: Raced the BMW 335i at the 1/2 mile yesterday - WannaGoFast - Clayton, GA
You most likely already know this but just in case …. the BMW's running 148 to 150 in my neck of the woods were around 550 hp. The easiest way to get a few extra/free mph is to remove everything external sticking out into the wind. Side mirrors are 2 mph believe it or not. (Mustang friend) If you use some collision wrap and close part of the grill opening, or all of it, you'll find a few more mph. All at no cost.

I saw a lot of guys with the blue tape all over the front end, but I guess I was too lazy to try it. I considered at least folding back my mirrors but didn't. I didn't even bother air the tires up to 45psi. I found out another similarly moded 335i ran on Sunday and was trapping 138/139. He dyno'd 460 WHP and 530 WTQ. I think your 550 HP is correct, but 550 WHP. I really don't want to run more power than that anyway due to the transmission. I'll definitely have to have the timing retarding down low to keep the torque down.
That's good news price wise, but those big 6-pots sure looked sweet.
Thanks for the kind words, but you wouldn't have a problem keeping up with me, unless you're referring to trying to keep me visible in your rearview mirror as I faded out.
You should try to at least make it to the Ocala, FL 1/2 mile in Jan, as I sure you would have a blast: wannaGOFAST - High-Speed Racing - Florida 1/2 Mile Private Runway Shootout

Re: Raced the BMW 335i at the 1/2 mile yesterday - WannaGoFast - Clayton, GA
It depends on how fast your going and where you put the tape for it to help. I tried lots of things myself and watched and learned from others. Remove the side mirrors completely if possible. I didn't do it but a Mustang did and gained almost 2mph. The last 1/2 mile I ran had technical problems i.e. no official times. I closed off the grill with collision wrap and saw 145 on the speedo. Water temps stayed normal as well as IAT's with just the lower grill open. Taping all the seams on the hood, removing the windshield wipers, removing the passenger seat etc. made no measurable difference. Hope this helps.

Very impressive runs, 335 sounds really strong!
I just watched a segment on Velocity Channel regarding the new 918 Porsche. Really a unique body style, not what you would expect from Porsche.
That's a shame with the Vette, you never like to see that happen at track events. At least he was able to keep it straight and got off it right away.
