Default Snowmobile 1926

Subject: snowmobile of 1926

Check out this snowmobile from 1926 ! I've never seen anything like this. It's pretty cool! I'd sure like to build one of those! It's just my speed --- Old, simple & usefull ! None of the modern day electronics to complicate things!

Talking Re: Snowmobile 1926

The only reason they built it is that they did not know that it would not work. With reverse on one side they could go sideways too, really nifyt, should be a product.

But there was no osha to assist the development.

Iam guessing that it was steel drums, and I wonder how they welded it back then, Gas torch I assume..........

Really appreciate you puting this up, and it was a good sales photo, but it never got the light of day???????

Enjoy, Woody

Very cool invention.
Could have done without the guy beating the $^% out of the horse, but I digress.

You've obviously never been to a modern day "Amish" horse auction. Trust me, at times it can be brutal.

I'd seen a video clip of this same conversion done to a snow cat some months ago.

Oledoc, I did say "at times" not "all the time".
The one near me in Sugar Creek Ohio has been on our local news several times for being cited for cruelty to animals, and the guy who runs the auction has been fined over $160,000.00.

That thing is pretty awesome!

As for the horse beating, while I certainly don't condone it (my late brother was a multi time World Champion Quarter Horse Trainer) you have to remember that this was shot in the 1920's and people did things differently, and thought differently about things, back then. Remember, this was only about 80 years removed from a time when people used to own people - and often treated them similarly.

Thankfully, times change.

Thanks for the link, Kitfox.

It sure would make a cool toy for Christmas.

The horse should have killed the rider and buried him in the snow.

I've just spent an hour looking for pictures I know I saved of a similar gadget used to haul lumber in the Maine woods about 1905. It was steam powered.
