Bought my first bike today!
Bought my first bike today!
I will start by saying I took the MSF riders course a couple of years ago. Before that I had never driven a motorcycle or even a vehicle with a standard transmission. I surprised myself and I think even my instructors through out the course. I loved it. Well, all this time passed by and I still hadnt found a bike or the oppurtunity to purchase one until last week. I found this Yamaha Seca II on ebay and the price was right. I jumped on it and picked her up today. I put 20 or so miles on some country roads today. Had a blast!

Re: Bought my first bike today!
I never even drove a motorcycle until "after" I purchased my first bike a month before my 20th. birthday.
Over the next 10 years I had a half-a-dozen Motorcycles and enjoyed all of them (maybe even a little more than my cars).
When I met my Wife (just before my 30th. birthday) she said she wouldn't ride, so I sold my favorite bike, a "GoldWing".
A couple years later, I got the bug for another bike, but after only putting about 1500 miles on it in 2 or 3 years, I realized the "thrill" was gone.
I hope you get as much enjoyment out of yours as I did mine.

I had a grt Dad, I started racing when I was 5 yrs old, moved up to under 100 cc class by 6, kept moving up in classes until I was 17...did some sport bike racing, as well as drag racing until I was 23, got married, wife said, no, no, I want your sons to have a father...so, be careful out there, I always felt safer on the track...I now ride an old Harley Fatboy...and have had some neat bikes in the between yrs...but, I did give up racing, honey, sure I did...lol....have fun with it....my wife always reading my posts...lol
Re: Bought my first bike today!
congrats on your new bike, and welcome to the world on two wheels. Nice little ride you got for your first bike. I commute all summer from about April until Nov on my 650, love it, and it really is relaxing because you have to keep your head completely focused on what's going on around you-all the time. So far since 2006 I have about 20,000 miles with zero incidents which is not to say that I'm such a great rider. I'm lucky, and keep myself in the game buzzer to buzzer when I'm strapped on! Have a great time. Mine's asleep now for the winter and I'm already going thru withdrawal!!!! Nice bike!

The most important thing to remember is you do not have metal around you protecting you, so when your on you bike YOU ARE PROTECTING THE BIKE, and it's always good to wear leather it's easier to replace than skin. I hope you stay safe and enjoy your new toy.

To the original poster (another better late then never post)...
I totally agree with the above statements by ole doc2u and glad to hear you took the MSF - more knowledge is always a good thing. Never let other people/riders pressure you to ride at uncomfortable levels. And while you are watching out for the other guy, never assume they will do the right thing just because they too may be on a bike. It was an out of control motorcyclist that not only caused my accident but fled the scene as well - so much for the "brotherhood" on that day (okay, I'm a "sister" but you get my point). I'm also a huge believer in ATGATT, saved my life that day. Has saved the lives of other racers and riders I have known. If you want to feel the wind in your hair, get a convertible. But it sounds as though you already understand the importance of protecting your own most precious resource.
And have fun - it is an experience of total focus and being one with your vehicle like no other.
