believe it or not...I like what I have...I have owned vettes, camaros, and such, but love my little cars...although, to be honest, if I could trade them, it would be for the ZR-1. That is one bad vette...having a rare V-8 Crossfire would be pretty cool too though....

How can you have an honest "best of" without one single hemi car? A 455SD Firebird/GTO? A Stage 3 Buick GSX? An Olds 442? Shall I go on... these things are always such a disapointment.

thinking back to the 70's, the hemi muscle cars, were very basic, a motor and drivetrain, and that was it. They rattled, banged, there way down the road. No power anything. Fast yes, enjoyment to drive, not really. Even my Z-28 was without power steering, but handled better than any coronet, super bee, challenger or cuda I remember....

I'm going to have to disagree with ya on this one Doc. I've owned 7 different B-body Mopars over the years and I've always found them to be the most tossable, manuverable, and agile intermediate car line out there.
I never had any problems with the handling provided by Chryslers torsion bar suspension, and neither did the LAPD. (didn't you ever watch ADAM 12 when you were a Kid Doc).
Chrysler's "unibody" was always rock solid (even though all the B-Body's I had were 2 dr. hard tops).
Everyone had an automatic with power steering, except my 69 Super Bee, it didn't have PS, or power breaks, and yeah, it had a Hemi. But even though it was a "stripper", with F-70-14" Radials in front, and L-70-15" "Belted" in back, it steered real nice, and cornered pretty good. (Well, as good as can be expected with "belted" tires anyway. The completely stock exhaust (with resonators) was actually quieter than the stock exhaust on the 440 RT's, and the 383 Road Runners.
Now I'm not saying these NASCAR "sized" vehicles handled as good as your "TransAm Race Series" Z-28, but I never remember any of them being an inconvience to drive. Actually the S-Bee, and the 68 Charger was always alot of fun, and will always be my favorite B-Body's.

I would give my eye-teeth for a lot of the late 60's, early 70's American Muscle but there are only 2 cars that I would give my XF up for.

1969 Yenko Camaro

HowStuffWorks "1969 Yenko Camaro 427: A Profile of a Muscle Car"

1967 Impala 4DR

Other than that my XF is more fun to drive than my 911, 928, Esprit or Alfa ever were.

Kim, why a 4 door, and not a great looking 2 dr. Impala SS fastback?

I really love the lack of pillar on the 4 dr + I think that the rear window looks too long. I like the way the 4 door looks from the back & the side much better. Plus that year isn't chromed to bits. I just think it is a sharp looking ride & a real head turner. Plus its not super common & that appeals to me too.

I guess I'm just terribly prejudice when it comes to 4 dr. cars.
Oh I know there are many "sport sedans" out there that would out perform my Crossfire, I just don't care for their family car persona.
When it comes to cars from the 50's and 60's, if it has to be a 4 dr. make mine a "Station Wagon". (Unless it's a shoebox Chevey) then it has to a NOMAD.

i totally agree. imho, the dana camaro (if you can ever find one for sale) is equally bada** as the yenko. i've done this collector car thing for over twenty years and the four door mint, low mileage original was always the desirable car to flip. i always doubled my money on them. you just wait for the right buyer to come along who appreciates factory tight. one of my favs was the '64 galaxie 500 w/ the thunderbird 390, a great year for ford. many of their sedans from that year look terrific. i must admit, the '67 impala ss bb convertible would be my personal pick.

Did you say Yenko? Next to my Cobra I sure wouldn't mind having one.
Attached is a Camaro that shows up at our weekly cruise in. Is it a real one? Doubt it but its pretty cool!

I know you old Dodge/Chrysler guys liked those rattle traps, but those I was around, had a lot of cheap interiors, and broken door handles, creeky doors, and hoods hinges...but, if you had a can of 3-1 oil, you were good to go...and I had only one friend whom I would trust a 160mph run with, in his dual-quad 440 Coronet...whom went thru a host of trannies and motors. His uncle owned a Dodge dealership lucky for him. Now the smaller cars weren't bad, on handling. My old Z would hold it's own in the quarter mile, but it was over after that...for big sleds, they would run top end...even long before spoilers and ground effects...

Cool Re: cars you want

The cars I grew up with (well, I got to see them a lot) in the boonies out West still resonate with me now...

Datsun Z car.
Jaguar XKE.
Citroen SM.
DeTomaso Pantera
Plymouth Roadrunner

...but I'll stick with my current ride, thanks.

A Torino,,,really,,,I guess the author was not familiar with the 1986 1987 Buick Grand Nationals or the 87 GNX. Better 1/4 mile times than the Torino and good gas mieage if you took it easy. Not to mention a great looking car when there was not that much in the eighties to get real excited about that was affordable
