Default Political Forum - 10-14-2009 , 04:32 PM

This is in response to many who come to this part of the forum to express their opposition to the the conversations that go on here. I and I'm sure the collective appreciate your stance and respect your right to your opinion and your desire to abstain from this particular activity.

While we do at times get very "animated" with one another, I don't expect any one of the regulars, let me stress that, I don't expect any one of the regulars that I have encountered to be of a nature as to actually resort to a personal altercation outside of the sometimes childish verbal barbs that we sling at one another.

To some this is a passionate hobby similar to the devout fishing persons. We do enjoy a good, well thought out and preferably original or at least personal commentary based off of what we read. Thus far I've not found a single person in this area that I wouldn't mind sitting down with and having a drink with (beer, rum, coke, etc.)...and that goes towards any who consider me their nemesis or at least a nuisance or I of them.

As it has been suggested in numerous responses to your comments about how horrible, deplorable, silly, or worse comments about this site, I simply suggest you just not click on that button that brings you to the depths of what you may consider anal retentiveness or RCI (rectal cranial inversion) if you prefer. However, as you find you just can't resist reading it, perhaps you may subconsciously desire this in your life.

I thought about ending this with Chef Ramsey's favorite line, but figured I'd show you the civility which does exist even in this area. So in closing I will simply say relax, back out of this area, and you'll have a more harmonious outcome than if you attack the activity simply because you don't like it.

As a noob with a coupe, I don't mind the Political Forum, but it's that Roadster Forum I can't stand. Half the time I don't know what they're talking about, and I find all that talk about 'dropping your top' repulsive. So to me, this forum's just fine.

Nice write up Erzer! There ain't nobody who has ever populated this part of the forum that I wouldn't drink with, not one. To me it's like a big Italian family, or at least a NY family, in that if you're not screaming at one another feelings get hurt because you don't care enough. LOL! Crazy but true. My heart hasn't been in it yet since Dwights' passing though.

Oh, and I'm with you there BlueDog. man, those roadsters just have a'tude don't they. Just because they can drive around topless and they think they're the cat's meow. well, they kinda are-but that's beside the point. Us in the coupe, we're all cocooned and snuggled up in the surround of love. Cue Barry White please somebody.

Go at it my friends. I normally don't snoop in there anyway. Unless I'm called in to close the thread because it has gotten out of hand....So, just keep it manageable cause I really don't like to close threads

I think it is good that you occasionaly close them rather than delete them. Sometimes a good thread goes bad and deletion does two things.

It removes the good conversation from the Forum, and hides the culprit(s) that screwed it up.

Thanks FP, for using good judgement.

Like I mentioned to JHM2K in a PM a while back: I enjoy discussions, not bickering.
I have to admit, I've stayed out of the Political forum lately simply because much of what has gone down recently has regressed into not much more than bickering & personal attacks.

As soon as I see the word "insane" (as it's applied to another person) I'm outtathere; there isn't any coming back from that!

Out of intelligent discussions comes understanding & respect, sometimes even compromise!

That being said, I wholeheartedly agree with Erzer's comments about shunning the Political forum if it's not your cup of tea. I greatly appreciate the ability to be able to discuss subjects that are normally off-limits in these politically-correct times of ours. Almost no subject is out of bounds & that latitude is tough to find nowadays! Something pissing you off? Something you want to get off your chest? Well folks, here ya go!

The woman I work with is a near polar opposite of me when it comes to political/religious views but we also share myriads of things when it comes to life experiences, kids, marriage, Brett FavRee, the list goes on & on & on. Do we ever get into arguments about one view or another?, nope. Do we discuss them?, all the time (though we shy away from religion)! Do I think she's wrong about stuff?, yup! Do we care?, not one bit.

AND, I should add that Erzer's comments about sharing a beer are absolutely true, personally.
Though, shots of Yukon are preferred ! After a few of those babies NOBODY makes any sense.

Just like politics.........

P.S.: I'm gonna miss Dwight......

I'd like to remind all to please keep these discussions objective and respectful.

It's OK to be passionate in your beliefs, but please remember others have the same right to their own beliefs.

I've received a number of PMs concerning the political threads, and while we can just avoid the political forum, some would like to comment and contribute, but find it offensive. Personally I'm not big on PC, but we do need to be sensitive to others. Being prudent and sensitive in our choice of words can avoid some of the anxiety.

I'd hate to see the "Political Forum" eliminated from the forum, and this can potentially lead the Administrator to remove it. I think it's nice we are allowed to have this forum. Many forums do not allow political discussions.

Please don't lose perspective of this privilege.

Thanks,

FP

Thanks for the reasonable words of advice, FP.

It IS a rare privilege for a Forum, regardless of its focus, to include political discussions as a sub-topic. As alleged adults, we should all have the emotional constraint to keep the conversations on topic, and avoid at all cost any inclination toward personal advances. We have been given the privilege to discuss issues, not license to vend virulent expression. We should all have the common sense to abide by four simple rules:
  • Drive-by cut and pasting is discouraged. When introducing a thread based upon a link, sufficient commentary should be included so as to understand the Original Poster's reason for introducing the subject and position on the issue. Threads opened based upon a link without such statements of purpose and position should be immediately closed.
  • Puerile bickering is strictly forbidden. Chronic offenders should simply be banned from taking advantage of the privilege to post in the Political Forum, at the discretion of the Moderators.
  • Posting invectives is strictly forbidden. Personal attacks are not to be tolerated. Period.
  • Hi-jacking is rude and inconsiderate to the Original Poster.
Simple, adult rules of engagement. More and more people are becoming concerned with the politics of today's national and world affairs, and all Members should have the opportunity to express positions and discuss issues without the fear of intimidation or personal retribution. Without emotional constraint and common adult courtesy, a Political Forum simply cannot survive.

Thanks, FP, for your tolerance and consideration to date. But you cannot be expected to be our moral and emotional superintendent unless we conduct ourselves as reasonable and informed adults.

invective - Wiktionary
