Default Dealership is covering the rust problem

My 2005 Coupe goes in tomorrow morning. I was surfing the threads and I came across a thread by Andrew about the rust problems some crossfires have at the bottom of the door. I went outside and checked it out and sure enough the rail that holds the weather stripping in is completely rusted out (sorry no pics). I called up my Chrysler dealership 3 days ago and I got a call yesterday saying there will cover it under the 5 year rust warranty.

I'll update the thread when I get my XF back. They said it could take about 2 days.

good news for you ...

the one thing i would ask... is to see the repair (once completed) less the weather stripping installed (to see the true quality of the repair).

Agreed... make sure you check it before you drive away! I was one of (if not) the first to get the rust fixed under warranty (pics are in Andrews thread). They gave me two choices... 1. Replace both doors and repaint 2. Do a fix and if that doesn't work replace the doors.

I'm assuming that you're going with a fix?

They didn't give me an option. But I will find out before they take it in. And don't worry I will check there work before leaving. Thanks for the heads up guys!

They told me that the rust was not bad enough to replace the entire doors since it was only on the railing and underneath. He told me there body shop was going to "blast" of the rust put down a primer, coat it with some kind of rubber sealant then put there weather stripping back in. I will inspect the job when its done. They did tell me though if they do start working on it and it looks really bad or didn't notice something the first time they saw it (when they inspected it and took pics) they will call me back with those 2 options as stated before.

If its anything I hate its rust on a fairly new car! Hell any car for that matter.
Its an '05 and I don't want to be driving around the Titanic!

I'll keep you guys posted and hopefully this turns out ok with no problems. And again Andrew thank you for that post. I think you may have saved my doors!

Thumbs up Re: Dealership is covering the rust problem

Sorry for getting back so late.
I got the car back about a week ago and they did an outstanding job! It looks like it just came off the showroom floor. I'll get some pics up soon.

BTW..

I just got some Karmann stuff in the mail. 2 Emblems and 2 "KARMANN" stickers. Anyone have any pics or any good idea where to put them?

Thanks guys.

I went to Karmann's website and sent them an email saying how much I enjoyed the Crossfire. That's it. I got 2 emblems and 2 decals for free. Great Company.

I did the same thing 8 to 10 months ago and never heard anything from them.

Yep; same experience here. And I can write a mean flattering email, but it got me nowhere in this case.

Would you mind posting pics of the emblems and decals?

Thanks.
