Exclamation Chrysler Max Care Extended Warranty Todk64

Ok, I've had a bunch of people ask me over the last week about their car's coverage, if it had rental, and what it would cost for an extended warranty. I've also learned that you can't purchase a Service contract directly from Chrysler. The service contracts on line are websites made by dealers. I don't want to take anything away from them, and I would tell anyone to purchase a Chrysler warranty instead of a 3rd party warranty.

The main service contract we sell is the Maximum Care plan. As long as your car is under 48,000 miles and within 48 months from the in-service date, it is eligible for this coverage. It extends the 3/36 bumper to bumper to a 7 yr/70,000 miles.
This includes: All Electrical Systems, All Engine Computers, Shocks, Torsion Bars, Engine Mounts, All Seat, Hood, Deck Lid, Convertible Tops, Window Mechanisms, Engine, Transmission, Driveline, Steering, Air Conditioning, Engine Cooling and Fuel Systems, Front and Rear Suspension, Anti-Lock Brakes. I'm sure you get the picture.
Its easier to tell you that it doesn't cover: Maintenance, Oil Changes, Glass, Plastic Lenses (Fogged Headlights) Paint and Soft Trim, Brake Pads and Rotors, Belts. There are up to 5007 Mechanical Components that are covered.
This plan is also Transferable to the next owner for $50.00. You can chose your deductible of $100, $50, or $0.00. And you can also have the entire amount refunded back to you from Chrysler if the time (7yrs) expires and it hasn't been used.
I have been able to quote people a savings of around $600 - $900 off of Chryslers retail price. We are doing this on a cost + basis. However, there is not a clear cut price. It all depends on what coverage is on your car now. Year, Miles, Certified, SRT-6, these factors all play a role. I'll be glad to give anyone a quote, I just need your last 8 VIN# and current miles. The average price I've seen so far (w/ $100.00 Deductible) has been $2,100 - $2,500 Retail, and we have been between $1,500 - $1,700.

If you guys don't have this coverage, GET IT!!! It's cheap insurance. Most dealers will also let you do a 0% Interest Payment plan for 12 months if you don't have the $1,800 up front. Hell if your radiator craps out and cross contaminates with the transmission you are looking at a $2,000 - $3,000 bill, and this is not an unheard of problem. $600 for a Seat Heater Element, etc...

Here are some places to buy them online, or I'm Tod would be happy to sell you one as well.

And there are other options too. You can get various levels of coverage (3 or 4 levels), for various terms (7 yrs and less - don't know why you'd do less though), and various miles - 50k, 60k, 70k, 85k or 100k. Relevant where some use it as a daily driver and some as a weekend ride. I too think it's quite reasonable insurance given the cost of repairs.

Although it doesn't cover glass (pit's and things), I had a previous Chrysler van with a full coverage warranty just barely beyond the 7 yr/100k (actually then 4.25 yrs @ 105k). One day the glass on the back window just blew up while I was parked talking on the phone. Blam. I thought someone was shooting a gun.

I later checked the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website. There were a few other reports of similar things happening. After initially saying it wasn't covered, I "explained" to the service manager that I didn't think it was normal for windows to just "blow up" and told him I had read of other incidents on the NHTSA site. It took a few minutes, but the svc mgr called upstream and immediately received approval to change it out at Chrysler's expense.

So was that an "undisclosed" problem? Or did already having the Max warranty help? I don't know. But if something does happen, and you think it should be covered, don't hesitate to ask for it.

One thing I've been unclear on is when the 7/70 extended service contract begins and ends. Is it an additional 7 years and 70K miles from the date of purchase of the extended service contract or is it a total of 7/70 relating back to the first day of service. As an example my '05 SRT6 has 3,900 miles and a service date of 1/2/07. My 3/36 warranty expires on 1/2/10. If its from the date of purchase, why would I buy the extended service and sooner than just before the 3/36 warranty expires? Thanks for all the info you keep providing, it certainly is appreciated.

From what I know, the 7 yrs is from the in service date. It basically adds 4 years to your original service contract.

There is no advantage (unless it is in rental cars, or 'perks') that I know of for purchasing it from the get-go, aside from the fact that some people want to roll it into their financed price.

You can buy the extended service contract up to 4 yrs/48k from original purchase/in service.

Correct it runs from the cars original "in service date", if you get the "Max Care" "Bumper to Bumper" it will extend the 3/36 warranty and the 7/70. The true benefit (IMHO) is in the extension of the 3/36 warranty.

Example: In service date 2/2005 original warranty will expire on 2/2008, 7/70 will expire on 2/2012. Max Care if purchased will also expire on 2/2012, but your 3/36 will now extend to 2/2012.

IT makes a BIG difference in price on when you buy it. There is two price levels: 0-12 months and < 12,000 miles from in-service date: the higher price level is after that up to 48 months and 48,000 miles from in-service date. And the difference in price is huge.

I'm a bit confused, and thanks for the info. My car has a in-service date of May 30 2005. I'm the second owner. It now has 22,000 miles on it. I thought, maybe wrong, that I have the remainder of the 3/36 bumper to bumper, or around 7 months to go. Also told that I can purchase from any Chrysler dealer, for $150, the 7/70,000 warrenty on the main items. Is this wrong? I saw your quote of $2,100 or so, man that seems high. But I'm going on info that might or might not be correct. Can you help me out.

That may or may not be correct. The 7/70 transfer fee is convoluted at best. 2005 Model year cars built before 10/31/04 automatically transfer to up to the third owner with no fee at all. If the car was built AFTER that date, there is a $150 fee to transfer the 7/70 to the second owner, and the third owner can't get it at all. I think the other catch is that you have to pay the $150 fee within 30 days of purchase or your out of luck. But if it's an early '05 production then it transfers automatically. Regardless of all that, the 3/36 stays with the car no matter what, so you DO have the last 7 months of 3/36 and Loaner Car Plan. The two best ways to figure it out are to look in your Warranty Book and or call Chrysler Customer Service. Perhaps Tod could help you out with specifics.

As far as the Max Care plan, the best deal seems to be the 6 year/70,000 Extended Service Contract. $2,100 is EXTREMELY high. I was just quoted that plan for my SRT-6 for only $1,185. $2,100 is full retail, and these service plans allow for up to a 125% dealer Profit Markup, so even at $1,185, the dealer is still making a couple bucks in their pocket.

Thanks, my car was built on March 5 2004, so I don't really need to do anything, right?

I don't think so. But, I don't want you to rely on my Dealer Days memory. I would hate for my information to turn out wrong you are left holding the bag. I would PM Tod and ask him VERY nicely to check your VIN. Or get your dealer to pull a VIP Report and show it to you. It will show you what you need to know in the Warranty section.

I agree 100% with the price of parts now, the Contracts ARE going to go up for sure. An extra $100 a month for 12 months is a small price to pay...

i bought my xfire from carmax. it had 16,900 miles on it. its a coupe. they sold me the max care plan for $1,499 dollars. my car is covered until 2013 or 76,900 miles total. i bought the 6/60k plan. my xfire is a '05 so i had some of the 3/36 left. i thought the 6/60k i bought would pick up after the 3/36k would run out but they told me that it doesn't work like that. it starts the day i bought the car. my deductible is $75 if i take it too carmax for repairs its $50. also car rental is $25 per day not to exceed 7 days and tow is not to exceed $50 per disablement. the # to maxcare is 1-800-731-2834.

When I purchased my '04 XF it had 44K miles on it. Since it was over the 3yr/36K base warranty I couldn't get the 7yr/70 MaxiCare Warranty. What I did get was a 5 yr/50K MaxiCare Warranty which started on the date I purchased the car! I'm now good until 2012 or 94K miles - better than the 7yr/70K warranty. The cost was approximately $1,600. Just a little more information for anyone looking to purchase a Chrysler warranty.

You might want to double check that on the miles. The rule to follow is if you buy a 50,000, 70,000 or even a 100,000 mile warranty. That is when it will expire. These warranties are not in addition to the existing miles. It is total, as in when your odometer reads 70,000 or the calendar says that your car has been in service for 7 years, the warranty is up.

I'm looking at my silver colored, DC Corporation Services Contracts card right now. The Plan Code is XM5100M; Maximum Care; effective date 2/24/07 ; expiration date 2/24/12; expiration mileage 94,986.

You may want to look into it and offer it on some of your higher mileage XF's. Then again, most of yours have low miles! Trust me, I check your website about once a week because a convertible XF is "calling out to me."

That makes sense now. I spoke with Jeremy about it, you must have purchased a 50,000 mile add on because of your warranty being up already. Did your car have over 36,000 miles on it when you purchased your extended contract?

Don't forget about the 8/80 or 8/100 Max Care that you can add to a Certified Pre-Owned car.

I went for the 8/80 Max care since I figure I'll time out long before I'd ever hit 80k miles.

Couple of things, Seems like a great price and good deductibles. But that is a CarMax Warranty. The 800 # isn't Chrysler. I'm not saying that you're going to have problems, and I'm sure that they sell a lot of extended contracts. But there's no such thing as a Chrysler CarMax Dealer.
