Board Donations? -
05-09-2007
, 08:43 AM
I currently own 2 muscle boards that look much like this one does. I have a "Admin" on both and am merely a VET on them to stay in touch with the members. They are hosted offshore and are not cheap to maintain. I keep them running by having my members who rely on the board for info and other things making donations. I also sell advertising space as well. Once this is done a member becomes "Donating members". I also grant "vet" status and "VIP" status as well for those with high post count- known in the BB community and have a good rep.
My question is - who is paying the bills on this board? Second - for those of us that have come to love and enjoy our crossfires and use this board for info (much like members do on my boards) - would we all donate to offset these cost? Would they be accepted by who ever owns the board?
To me - my boards provide a service to my members - they can read how to eat right, what kind of exercise is needed and even how to use AAS if they so choose to do so. This board does the same for me - I have learned from each of you and want to continue to do so. Therefore I would not mind donating to ensure it remained up and running..
Board owner - what are your thoughts?
And no I will disclose what my boards names are - sorry.

I would be happy to contribute financially or provide co-location space in my facility.

Thanks for everyone's support, but for now no donations are needed. The forum is hosted on a dedicated server I lease for a number of other projects. For now I have plenty of bandwidth so it really doesn't cost me anything since it wouldn't be getting used anyway.
As for "premium" memberships - I feel like sometimes they create an elite membership clique or a class system that sometimes upsets the balance of message boards. It might be something I would consider in the future if donations are needed or if there seems to be enough demand for it.

I agree with the others. I would gladly donate funds to keep this forum alive if it became necessary. I log on daily and enjoy the info I see. I am surprised how many members joined over the past years and appear to have not logged in since they created their membership. I go to the members list and click on date joined and then list by oldest to newest and hundreds have not logged in years. Maybe they don't even own Crossfires anymore.

For me, helping out if I can isn't to get any recognition to be a "premium" member but just to help out.

Absolutely... This is the best place for XFire information, data, scuttlebutt that anyone could ask for!
Would I donate to the cause if needed; Heck Yes!

I would also be willing to donate to help defer any cost to keep it running. This is by far the best Crossfire forum I have found.

I was hooked on this site from the day I found it! With the cost of everything on our cars, I shudder to think of how else I would get a service manual!
Would I be willing to dole out some cash to keep this site going...YOU BET!

Where else would you learn about 'Boobies with Wings'.
Wish you would have been at cruise. It was a lot of fun.

I appreciate everyone's support and I thank everyone for offering money, but as I said before, this site technically doesn't cost me anything to run since it's on a dedicated server that I use for other business ventures. That being said, if you really feel like making a donation, I have a local charity that I'm involved in and you're welcome to send something their way.
It's called Women's Rising, and you can find more information at http://www.womenrising.org. It's a community based program that helps needy women and children achieve self-sufficiency. You can make a donation online by pressing the Donations button on the left hand side.
