Default '05 Convertible top issues

OK guys,

Decided perhaps a new post would be the best way to go with this.

I got the trunk open today and promptly removed the black piece off the electric lock.

Trunk locks and unlocks now without issue. THANK YOU for those posts!

I've attached some pics of the area where all the controls and motor is.

What do you guys think?

It's definitely low but I don't see any indication of corrosion.

I did see that the cradle that the trunk divider switch is part of is broken away at the bottom. Going to have to source another I think. It still appears to function. There is some electrical tape there so it may have been played with in the past.

So here is where I am. I get fast beeps and the top switch blinks constantly.

When I unhook the top from the windshield, nothing happens with the windows or the trunk lock.

I would think my first step is to replace that switch? Would you all agree that is the place to start?

Thanks for all your help!

Looks pretty normal to me....

except I think my wire bundle is wrapped all the way to a couple of inches from the end

Has someone been poking around the wiring?

Get the service manual from the Forum. The wiring and controls are rather involved. Don't start replacing parts ---- they are expensive.
Try to cycle the top through a complete down/up sequence. Sometimes this works.
Next manually lower the top, then see if it will go up using the switch. Post results on this thread. There are a couple of us who have a lot of experience with top issues who may be able to assist.

Top will only go down manually. I've already put it down manually.

I attempted to put it up with the switch and it struggled to do so. Given past experience with ragtops, that seemed like low fluid which I have now confirmed.

That I do not know. Possibly a leak somewhere. I haven't had time to get deep into it yet, it was 35 here this weekend. :-(

Good news is,,,; When it is that cold you don't need a top to go down.

Bad news is,,; Summer is coming soon and you will want the top to go down.

As I am having some issues with my 05 SRT6 convertible, I am enjoying your thread and can relate.

Hope you solve it. I'm learning a lot from the contributions being made.

Wrong.

It is hard enough to keep up with each person we are trying to help. Now, any questions you have answered are lost or confused with others we are trying to help, so we must start over.

I've spend tons of time on here helping people with their tops and other electrical issues. This just makes this one case harder to deal with.

Someone else take this one, I'm out.

Well, ah, sorry.

Since my last post was up for a week without any responses, I figured this would be a better route. So there wasn't any progress regarding "help"

I apologize if I've caused any confusion. However, this post does seem to be getting more attention.

Update:

I topped off the fluid. Unlocking front does nothing to the windows. Switch blinks. Beeping.

With the car running, I manually cycled the top up and down twice to see if the electronics had to be reset, per advice of PizzaGuy. No luck.

Top will not go down with power. However, top did go completely up with the power switch.

I then checked the reservoir and it was back down to the level it was at before I topped it off.

Think I could be dealing with a leak. I pit the top back down and looked at the pistons on each side and they had a bit of fluid. I am guessing they are both leaking. Hard to see any other fluid down there but the fluid was clearly visible there. Are there other areas I should check for leaks?

Since nothing happens with the top or windows when it is unhooked from the windshield, can I now assume that the switch is bad there?

You advice and help is appreciated!

Thanks.

After reading the forum, I guess I have an additional question.

I've read that the fluid reservoir will show lower when the top has been used and go back up as fluid returns to the reservoir?

True? Perhaps I should check the level again in the morning?
