Hemi Crossfire Conversion
Hemi Crossfire Conversion
Apart from the overpriced Startech Hemi Conversion to the Crossfire does anyone know of any other companies who perform such a swap using the 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi.
I am in Australia and would like to know exactly what is involved.
Can the original 5 spd auto be retained etc.

Re: Hemi Crossfire Conversion
How much HP do you want to make? How much money do you have available? Do you have smog regulations?
If you go v8 you will need the biggest brakes you can find. I would also try and get a wider front wheel to control the plowing effect you might experience with a heavy v8.
If you want a cheap v6 that might fit the crossfire you should take a look at the Sebring/Prowler motor and are almost always in junkyards, some are known to have a forged lower end and variable intake manifolds, and have been know to make 300 hp N/A. with the forged lower end you now have the option of boosting too. But you will need to get yourself an aftermarket ECU just to properly tune the motor, though I guess you could get by with the Sebring ECU... The nice thing about the Sebring/prowler motor is that you might be able to sneak it past the smog inspector.

Keep us posted if you come up with a good way to go.

It's going to be tough to shove a V8 into one of our cars. You will probably have to move the transmission back to fit everything. That's a bunch of work.
I'd go with the AMG 5.4 V8 instead of the Hemi. It's a much more compact package.

I am planing this as a long term project. Prob in a few years when I get a different daily driver.
I am trying to make a plan and start collecting parts.
I like stuff when it is older anyway as I restore mopars for a living and I don't really care what the car is worth. I just want what I want.
Re: Hemi Crossfire Conversion
the 4.3 is the exact same engine as ours minus two cylinders, i would think that would be the easiest swap. i doubt the tranny would link up though and they only came auto, but they were near 300 hp. that would put us in the 13's easy, and they have more of an aftermarket.

I hear you too. If you could only see my other car. It's absolutely nuts. I wanted all kinds of stuff and have been in the process of putting it all together.
I just got my custom wheels in for it. I'll work on my AMG brake conversion Sunday.
As for the AMG 5.4 motor, look for any Mercedes with a 55 on the back. A CLK 55 is a great choice. It was available with 340-something hp from '98 to '02 and then a little more in the 2002 and later. The SLK 55 is 2005 and newer. The E-class, CL-class, and S-class were all packing the same motor as the CLK until the end of 2002. In 2003, they all got supercharged motors in the 460 to 496 range depending upon the chassis. The G-class packs the 496 hp motor too.
Unfortunately, the SLK 55, CLK 55, and C 55 all use the naturally aspirated variant.

Feets thanks for the info this is very helpful.
I am new to the MB thing but I learn fast.
I have put late model motors in old mopars so I know how to make stuff fit. The big difference is even a bodies have plenty of Eng bay room and there are really no systems that need to be incorporated.
