It would be interesting to try your RCM in another XF to see if the problem follows the RCM.

Question Re: How to Relay Control Module (RCM) Repair - (Mystery no Start) - 12-15-2009 , 02:55 PM

I have done a search and can not locate the photo of the horn mod. Help, I wanna add it as I have the RCM on the bench and might as well do both at once. Thanks Woody

Just got a call from the chrysler dealer on my 04 crossfire. Seems the BAS and EDS light and the check engine light with the secondary air injection code have the relay box in common. They reset the codes and said to come get the car and lets see how it goes. They don't want to replace anything for now and want to wait and see if the codes come back. I'm not getting a worm fuzzy with this course of action.
Any ideas ?

I haven't had any no start issues but, I have had problems with secondary air injection code P0410. I have removed the module and opened it up. Everything looked great. It was clean and I was concentrating on the relays themselves. I used a small finger nail file to clean the relay contacts about a week and a half ago. So far, the CEL has stayed off. After finding and studying this post I am wondering about the solder connections as well. If my code returns and I need to pull my module again, I will look at my solder connections,

I was just advised by the local Chrysler dealer that the relay control module needs to be replaced. Their cost is 625.00. Called the Mercedes Dealer and the same part is 220.00. Am I missing something here. The diagnosis is mutipul codes stored and all hve the relay in common. Is there a master parts crossover from Chrysler to Mercedes Parts Number?

Haven't tried the fix yet. The car is still at the dealer, we pick it up this am. I will try the fix this pm but thought it was for only starting problems. I'll be using your step by step procedures and let you know how it turns out. Thanks Ray

I did the RCM repair yesterday and no check engine light after driving 50 miles. Thats a first.
Hope this fixed the problem. Total cost, zero dollars, Chrysler would have been 625.00 out the door. Thanks tighed1 for the info. Ray

Thanks for the info tighed1.
I've had the 'no start', 'stall when stopping' and 'engine management light on' problems for a while on my 2004 n/a coupe. The engine management light comes on much less frequently now and the stalling problem hasn't happened for a few weeks, but the 'no start' issue is getting worse. I found a different thread to this a few days ago and decided to re-solder the joints on the Relay Control Module pcb. I looked at the joints under a Loupe and saw two potential bad joints so re-soldered all the big pin joints.
I replaced the RCM and turned the ignition to start the engine but nothing at all - all lights on but nothing at all at the start position. Tried again within seconds and everything OK. Thought it may have been the systems settling down although not logical. Did a short run with a few stop starts and no problems.
Last night I came across your post and realized I had completely overlooked the pins you highlighted - so out with the RCM again this morning and check out your pins - glad I did - real bad cracked solder! Removed the old solder and melted new in. RCM back in and decided to give the car a good run. Just got back from a 150 mile trip with lots of stops/starts no problem - and I'm sure there would have been with the cracked joints.
My Xfire is an everyday car with 75k on the clock, still feels taut and the engine is crisp as new.
Thanks for the clear pics and instructions and also (hopefully) for saving me a few Pounds.
Cheers,
Bluestone.

Tighed1, The RCM arrived today in fine shape and a Free sticker! Once again Thanks very much I hope the beer was cold. Now if it will warm up again, the Crossfire is covered in snow with 5-6 inches forecast for tonight or tuesday night. Larry
