Default Oil change

Has any one ever poured the oil into the oil filter housing instead of the the oil fill hole? When I was doing my oil change it seemed to be a lot easier because of the size to dump the oil in the oil filter hole.

From reading previous postings on the subject: Refilling oil via the oil filler cap entry causes oil to become trapped in the valve cover and speeds up gasket deterioration.

Oil will find its own level, if it cannot drain then it will do the same whether you fill using the oil filler hole or in normal use.

Hi,
I agree with you in principle, but from what I've read on these posts, MB in their infinite engineering wisdom, designed in a catch all spot that retains a pool of oil in the valve cover and degrades the gasketing material over time. Is this true? I don't know, but alot of the people on this forum seem to know alot more than me. I'm just saying....
