Smoke coming out of interior fuse box
Smoke coming out of interior fuse box
Hi
While moving to a new city I had to leave my crossfire unused in my uncovered driveway for 9 months. I am now able to bring it to my new home but am having 2 major issues which may or may not be linked.
1. The battery had died so I attached a temporary starter battery and when I turned the ignition to start the engine, smoke began to come out of the interior fuse box by the driver side of the dashboard and there was a burning smell.
2. When i try to turn to turn the ignition off, the engine continues to run even when i take the key out. I have to disconnect the battery to stop the car from running.
I would be really grateful if someone can advise me what to do because I am at a loss.

Re: Smoke coming out of interior fuse box
^^^ I think Rob "nailed it". ^^^
I will bet MONEY this is not a component failure, it is a wiring problem due to rodent damage. For SOME reason, we see a lot of this (comparatively speaking) from those who store their cars or leave them sitting for a long time. The insulation on the wires must taste good.
I have read at least two threads here where someone has stored their car in a carport or barn and ended up with chewed wiring under the hood. If you are lucky, re-insulating the wires will do it - but I bet the PTCM has been damaged.

Also, look in the BIG box next to the battery where the BCM, PTCM and RCM are. Most or all of the wiring connects to the modules on top.
Then, look in the fuse box on driver's side. YOu can pry out the panel holding the fuses and get a look down under at the harnesses.
