So the symptom of "cricket on crack" is due to the batteries?? Interesting... I was under the impression it was a bad Piezo speaker or something. Nice write-up!

A lot of people will find their circuit board is covered in green corrosion when they open it up. A lot of the problems with the alarm seem to stem from these batteries going flat and leaking causing corrosion. It needs to be cleaned up before replacing the batteries otherwise some problems will reoccur. I used a different approach on replacing the batteries and instead went for having a separate battery pack mounted remotely from the siren. I did a brief write up on how I did it a while ago.

Those batteries will be fine, but the corrosion isn't green thats the coating for the electronics to insulate them. the corrosions is brown red like all battery corrosion. My board was shot with corrosion and 2 electronics majors told me not to bother trying to solder the batteries back in due to the extreme corrosion and rot on the circuit board. If your problem has been going on for a long time(cricket on crack), then just replace the Alarm. They are cheap and easy.

The new one from Mercedes is part #A 171 820 25 26 -was $148.60 Canadian when I did it last year. Chrysler quoted 282.00 Canadian for #5124443AB" Call them both and I am sure it will still be Mercedes that is cheaper. The new one does a quiet chirp when you lock the doors which is nice.

That is the link to the post where I linked up my purchase info. It was a little cheaper than my good friend Ron paid.

Hi Ron! It was good to see you in Yakima last month

Question is - how do I know I need new batteries? I am kind of confused as to whether my alarm even works. Only reason why I'm wondering this is because nothing happens when I push the PANIC button on the remote. Unless there is another fix to this issue!

Yep. The alarm batteries going dead = cricket on crack sound.
Batteries DEAD = no sound.
