Anyone know where to locate steering idlers for our lovely cars?.....had my mechanic fit my new steering damper today (for massive sum of £10 lol) & he said one of the steering idlers is a little ropey, not excessively & wouldn't fail mot but me being me would like to get them changed had a search on eBay & the usual suspects but came up short?

THE CROSSFIRE SHOP ~ Parting out '05 Limited and two '05 SRT-6

He buys up wrecked / totalled / damaged Crossfires and parts them out.
But I think you said you want NEW parts, so I really wouldn't know where to find steering parts.

One thing you might try is searching for Mercedes SL320 parts instead ......

I can give the breakers in the uk a call and see what they have, but if new are available and cheap enough i'd like to have new, similar to the steering damper...Got it for £24 delivered and fitted for £10....bargain

He said it's only a small part, not the whole linkage? Not to sure to be fair?

Question Re: Steering idlers?

The mechanic does all his searching for parts via the web but he said chrysler variants are a pain in the arse, is the exact merc equivalent model an SLK 320...any other model numbers etc...?

previous car was a merc slk 320 and I kept the odd part I noticed was missing on the XF so I didn't have to buy those parts. Every so far has been identical to the merc. From what my mechanic and I can see if its not cosmetic it appears to be straight SLK. You really need to have had an SLK to appreciate just how good the XF is in Coupe form. Much stiffer and far better at cornering, I have just learnt how to scare myself again. Whooooooah

Yeah you can tell a xf is an slk hybrid just by looking at it, but the styling of an xf is much more ...mmmm sexy? lol.
Still have no clue what a steering idler is...i'll try and ask mechanic for more info.

Don't think that ones what you need its too much stuff. If you look at the first link I sent I think you want either part 3 or 5 depending - just need to find someone other than Chrysler doing them . Don't know why Mercedes don't know what you mean as I found idlers arms etc mentioned all over the place on Merc forums?

Spoke to one mb dealer who quoted 6 weeks delivery that's a very long time & I just wouldn't feel 100% confident it would arrive....spoke to the Chrysler breakers linked via this forum/main website & he said he can't do the part on its own...but altogether with the linkage at £125+ vat, Looks like I'm stumped with this part

Here's a generic picture of the whole steering assembly.
Look at the parallelogram picture.

Yep would seem its the idler arm...just need to find one now?.
Now I'm thinking, i bought a steering damper recently from the following link:

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

In the list of merc models that the damper was compatible with it lists numerous different models....does that mean the idler arm would also be compatible across these models?, for instance I have found an idler arm for a c-class 1.8 (this model was in the list of compatible models on the damper link) link here:

MERCEDES BENZ C-CLASS IDLER ARM 1.8 93-00 OE QUALITY | eBay

Does this mean that this idler arm would fit an slk 320/crossfire?
Sounds confusing & hope I've explained things as best as possible
