Looking for Xfr

Hi - not yet an owner but close - I am going to look at a 2004 Auto in blue tomorrow snow allowing. 40K miles, FSH just serviced, 12 month MOT - less than £5K, is this good or too good. Anything I should be looking out for besides rust under doors - dodgy cat - electric seats ? should it have run flats or is it ok to be ordinary tyres? Rob

hi rob price seems about right.... your correct some suffer from rust under the doors and around the latch on the tailgate, heated seats seem to fail on some, dont think they were fitted with runflats from the factory, whereabouts are you located ? with the toon bit in your username i`m guessing your way oop north , as ichon has said check out the uk crossfires site for info on meets and best of luck on your search they are a blinding car for the money...

hi there,as said it seems a good price, and you may want to check out ebay, theres a roadster on a 2005 plate going for 4800 at the last bid with only 19000 on the clock, it may attract a flurry of last minute bidders as at the time of posting this there are only 22hrs left to run, you wont regret getting one, they are great fun, good luck

Well been and looked all over it - excellent condition door bottoms clear tailgate ok spoiler deploys all toys including seats ok

Drove it but and a big but under gentle acceleration pulls to left needing correction all time - seems to wander ok city roads and rough so was expecting some problem with low profiles it seems like toque steer but on a rear wheel drive!

Maybe I need to drive another to see if its a characteristic there is one about 14 miles away more miles & more expensive -

Annoyingly I like the car but a few miles and I had had enough!!

I own a coupe, have driven 3 different xf's before buying mine though & everyone of them pulled to the left & needed correcting when driving.....mine does it a little to especially when the road has a camber....I've had a trusted mechanic go all round mine & he said it was rock solid.
I think xf's are not the best steering cars in the world & do tend to have a mind of there own at times, but once you get used to how it drives they really are lovely cars to own & drive, I love mine & it's so easy to drive....& thus far been cheap on parts, I had a few niggles with mine which I knew when buying hence I got it at a lower price, but I've put all the problems right for not that great an outlay.

Had email from garage today he advised that they have driven some 30 miles and it tramlines - the inner edges of front tyre are worn and are contributing - is this a feature of the Crossfire or indicative of wheel alignment problem (at 40k miles wouldn't think its a wear problem on joints)

rob my xf has just turned 17000 miles and had a new set of tyres fitted about 1000 miles ago and i think it is just a trait of the car as they have a steering box and not rack and pinion that they tramline on poor road surfaces especially roads thats have grooves worn in them by trucks, having said that on nice flat and smooth roads it drives straight as a die...

just come back from driving a 2005 roadster - had Continentals all round instead of the Cooper tyres - hardly any pull under acceleration or braking and straight as a die otherwise - didn't want to give this one back - now there is a problem Coupe or Roadster (where is the boot space in this?) I guess the laptop will just fit down under hood bit and slim line case for rest - good job I don't play golf. So is £5990 fair for 2005 roaster, good tyres 12 month RT & MOT, 77K miles mildew inside hood - been standing a while. Sorely tempted this afternoon had to wait for smile to disappear (this one shows me why)

A number of things will contribute to the pulling issue..so ask the garage to check them...tracking (set to chrysler settings not to 0 as most set it to), tyre pressure (simple but most of the time a major cause), tyre wear and quality of tyre, my xf pulled to the left, changed the steering damper and it resolved the issue massively...damper was bought & changed for massive sum of £30.......If the issue doesn't seem massive why not try getting the motor for a stupidly low price? (as i did).
I went over mine before buying and noted everything that needed doing (and dressed them up a bit ) got various prices of the net for fixing and said to put it right it will cost £**** whatever so my offer is this £****, Got mine quite cheap and after panicking for a short while I got put onto a very good/honest mechanic and with help off many here I managed to get everything I needed fixing for £110 that's parts & labour.
I was working next to a car dealership a few weeks back and was offered considerably more for my motor than I bought it for so I'm very happy....Only thing is I'm getting the itch for a roadster now lol....I will say though that the boot space on the coupé is fantastic.

Glad you enjoyed the experience, my advice with the price is check out ebay there are cars with alot less miles, one went last saturday for£ 6000 with only 18000 miles on it and there are a few on now, also you may want to try piston heads website, but ultimatley it depends on your on funds.
The luggage space is an issue on the roadster, but i have been away with my wife packing two small holdalls and had everything we needed for a long weekend, and soft luggage is the way to go, just squash it in!

Hi dealer came back - re-tracking and new front tyres, 12 month MOT, 40k Service, 6 month tax, 3 month warranty - still same price -

If it now drives OK will probably have it - just small matter of insurance even at my old age £600+ and as my second car (well it will be number 4 really - 2 are hers)

The insurance companies seem determined to think that I can drive at least 2 at the same time but seem to think that she can't so mirror no claims on her cars (but I insure them!!) Don't even go there with multi car, did try specialist sports car insurer (special price too £800+) and then you want to use car for 1 business trip - a real no no have to have business insurance! Then there are the options which they add in automatically - why would I need hire car in event of a claim when we have 3 others?

OK been back now drives as it should and it's mine now - or will be on Saturday - only down side was the tyre inflator kit was gone and a holts kit - still not a major issue just need to get a back up one just in case

Seems you got past the first hurdle very fast........

Should I buy one......the crossfire may be the worlds greatest 'love it or leave it car'...for me the looks are fantastic, price is out of this world cheap and I love driving the car.

Second hurdle is where you are now.....

Why are they so dogoned expensive to insure? My BMW Z-3 IS 10 TIMES LESS, my 2005 Dodge Hemi 3/4 ton crew cab less than 1/2 the cost and my 48 Packard is less than the BMW.......my insurance agent will insure it for $10 a month if stored car and one phone call can insure it for driving and a cal to revert back to storage again....a bit of a pain and God help me if I forget to make the call.... but insurance is a bit better to swallow 4 months a year and then it' a real treat to drive it after being away for so long.....


As someone else said here before the smiles these cars give us, they are worth the price now matter how much you have to spend

And I'd like to add....this forum has made owning the Crossfire a much greater experience for me than most anything I have ever owned....all the support, tech advise, humor and such........just a great group of folk who seem to leave the attitudes at home....really I think it is a trait anyone who would love these odd little cars must just have naturally.
