Default Crossfire Insurance

Hey Guys n Gals

I was looking at buying a crossfire but was doing my research before hand and was shocked at the cost of insurance.

im 31, lost my no claims in a minor bump earlier this year but have been driving for 10 years and have no convictions...im only going to be doing around 3k a year but im getting quotes back in the region of £1100!!! on moneysupermarket.

does anyone have any advice on which insurance companies to go to for a sensible quote!!!!????

thanks in advance

State Farm $500 a year for my SRT-6 but that is in the US (I just noticed you are in what was once the land of the TVR).

If you live in an area where there is rampant fraud in auto collisions, a high car theft rate and poor drivers. Then you are lumped in with the highest rate payers. Here in Canada they are sorted by postal area codes, live in the wrong one and you may pay hundreds more than the guy down the street in a different area code. Your driving record has a small impact on the insurance, it is the others who make it so high. A neighbour moved to the high rate area and his insurance nearly doubled.
Not to be seen as prejudiced but the highest rated areas around here are populated by 'new' Canadians, some of them fill there car with passengers and go and have an 'accident', go to a friendly clinic and get therapy and cash from the insurance company. A uTube video shows one such local incident but the other driver points to his dashcam and they race away. Leaving him with a dented front bumper, their licence plate and a video of them reversing into him.p

Hi Adam

I have been using a mixture of AXA and Swiftcover for the last 10 years. One goes up in price one year the other comes down. Seems a bit daft as they are the same company.

Hope you get sorted

Cheers

Hi Adam, I had the same problem, had a company car for 30yrs so didn't have any no claims of
my own even though been driving 50yrs !!!
Mine was over a £1k for the first year, but mine is an SRT. this year dropped straight down to £364
with only 1year no claims !!! thats with Allianz.
My husband has a couple of customised cars that need specialist insurance and he uses Adrian Flux
Insurance, they insure Classic Cars as well and are very reasonable. you may have to suck it up for the first year but I promise it will be worth it

I think you'll struggle to get a sensible premium with any 3 Litre car and zero no claims.

Try confused.com and see what you can find.

I run a search on confused.com every year, regardless of my renewal premium, I do this for both of my cars, and always seem to be able to beat my renewal, and ironically the best price is often being quoted with the very company that I'm currently with, yet is cheaper than the renewal they have sent me.

It usually takes a call to the insurer to point this out, and I then end up with the lower premium, so it's always worth the 20 minutes and messing around each year.

Dang Dean... they quoted me a lot higher for 2 cars. Maybe the SRT part I guess. My current insurer is Erie. They wouldn't even insure the cars if it weren't for being a long time customer. They don't like high performance cars, or cars that total so easily. In fact, Erie cost me 4k on my E350 MB loss. Insurance it seems, is very different everywhere. You have to do your homework. Now that my better half totaled a car, I am stuck where I am. Can't move because of it...

YUP, it depends on where you are. Here in the great state of MA (not so great) you can't get specialty insurance for cars like ours. The car has to be over 25 years. PLUS, if my XF does get totaled all I will get is book value. Which is LOW. Of course, I would SUE, count on that.

Given that they will total the car for just about any minor damage, one has to wonder the high cost for Xfire premiums.

After 7 years of owning two, I have paid for them almost twice. Allstate has been my insurer since 1970. And they have done well by me and for me But, at $1200 a year, it is time to separate the two Crossies from the herd and put them in a different corral.

Was with Allstate for 25 years, during that time rates started moving up over last few years and decided to put the Crossfire on Hagerty Ins , had been with them until I notice over last few years rates had been going up about 50 dollars a year for last 3 years , So I went shopping and if you do this don't do it online, go out and shop, get quotes from 4 different Ins company , now I have 4 cars GMC Burb , 2014 300c AWD , 07 Corvette and the Crossfire , Lets just say it pays to shop around save big on the cars and the house , Allstate called and said I was Gold Premium Customer and did not under stand way , and I told them it was because they were sucking gold right of me , after I told them what I was going save with new Insurance co. they hung up on me, after 25 years LOL , all I can say is you should shop around ever few years after that they start to raise your rates a little at time after 25 years your brain washed into thinking your getting great rate is BS

I heard the rates on the other side of the ocean are extremely expensive for auto insurance. Does anyone know why that is ?

It is because some drive on the left hand side of the road and some on the right.

Probably the same reason fuel is 3 times more in Europe than here. Besides, after watching all the youtube videos of drivers in England, you need not ask... Although, I am sure if more cameras were available in the US cities, we would see the same thing. My video cam in the big rig sure gets an eye full everyday. I think insurance just follows the bad driver areas....

Concur ! I dumped Allstate several years ago after their computer started raising rates. Many companies renewal notices are raised simple on a recurring bases by the computer program printing out the forms: been shopping insurance every year and have saved a goodly sum by simple switching companies while maintaining the same coverage on four autos. Why should rates go up when each year the cars get older?

You can't fail to have seen some of the truly terrifying Russian dashcam footage on YouTube which makes most UK stuff seem pretty tame - plus there's more appearing from the US every week - how long before it becomes a legal requirement, rather than just a premium-saver?

Anyway, my basic cover from esure is about £160 - for the SRT6... before adding 'Motor legal cover' etc - that's with about 9 years NCD and I get a small discount for having multiple policies with them, but still a far cry from some of these crazy prices.
Even when I was with Sainsbury's Bank previously, it was under £300 with only 5 years NCD.
All quotes via the Meerkats.
Maybe being over 50 helps...?
