Default Braided Steel Brake lines... Where to Buy!?

Does anyone know where I could find braided steel brake lines? I've looked all over and have come up empty handed... I've heard a few people mention goodridge but I can't find a distributor anywhere.

I like Earls because he's always cheaper, but will have to custom cut them for you. So you're better off with Goodrich, they have the specs but they might be pricey, let us know what you find out on price?

The only thing I've been able to find is a link from an earlier post from way back in '04...

http://www.formymercedes.com/mb_resu...ded+Brakelines

I'll call on Monday and see what they say.

Not a bad price, but I don't like crimp-on braided lines. I just don't trust them. I would recommend the AN style. It's safer and you can rebuild them if a line leaks or gets damaged.

The first picture is of the crimp on brake lines. The second picture is the reusable and much safer brakeline fitting, these are the ones you want, not the crimp-on crap.

Cool Re: Braided Steel Brake lines... Where to Buy!?

Maxwell, nether one of the brake lines you pictured are D.O.T. approved. the only stainless steal brake lines that are legal for street use will have a plastic or nylon shield at the crimp portion of the fitting, the A N style are not legal for the street, i am not saying they are not as good or better i just wanted to let you guys know of the difference. And for HDDP i have gotten all my ss brake lines from a locale hose supplier, check your local phone book and look for a industrial hose distributor like parker or parflex you will probably get a better price than going through a auto part distributor. just my 2 cents.

I hear ya, screw DOT approval, lol.

actually I get great deals on Ebay motors for the AN brake lines. also Aerquip Parker are probably the main manufactures for earls, goodrige, and russel fittings too.

cudaman and HDDP, I take it I have to call up both of these sites to see if they supply brake lines for the Crossfire/SLK and get a quote...

HDDP, I take it your running the Goodridge on the track...!? If so how are they holding up? I imagine they've taken beating.

Is there anyone else on the forum that has steel brake lines installed on their Crossfire?
I just don't want anything to go wrong or have to worry about if I bought a cut-rate set!

Thanks for every ones response thus far!

GOODRIDGE SS BRAKE LINES... Great manufacturing, easy to install, Pre-built to size, and cheap... I think they were about $75...

They must have raised the price... the cheapest I found were $103.30 shipped.

Rolling Start Auto
(MFR Part #: 34040)
http://www.rsautoparts.com/

They fit both SRT and non-SRT Crossfire's.

I'll be sure and post pics when I get them installed.

HDDP, I was reading an earlier post on bleeding the brake lines and you said, "It's a two person job in this order RR, LR, RF, LF. Make sure you tell your assistant not to pump the pedal." I've only done brakes on friends cars and I’m just wondering why it’s a two man job if the other man isn’t pumping? Also is there anything else I should know?
I already ordered ATE Super Blue brake fluid.

Thanks!

Just got back in from the garage where I was installing the brake lines for only about 2 hrs... it would have been less but 2 of the bleeder valves were stuck. Anywho they look great and the difference in feel isn’t tremendous but it definitely stiffens things up a bit. I haven't done a real test yet cause I'm just too tired... however tomorrow I'm going into the dealer to have them replace my drivers door sensor and I'll be sure and take the back roads and report back.

Here are a few pics:

The first one is of the old and new line(s)... notice the newer one is smaller in diameter than the old.

Thumbs up Re: Braided Steel Brake lines... Where to Buy!?

After a 150 mile brake in period I was finally able to perform an expensive braking test. Well first off they work! They don't feel as heavy (not sure if that makes sense)... as in they seem to grab earlier and firmer than before, which for those of use who "drive it like we stole it" is a good thing! And they were a cinch to install and I was surprised how brown the brake fluid was after only 11,700 miles of use... guess I'm riding them too hard. Plus they look really good!

Pics are of the rear brake line(s).

I guess they changed it... try 34030.
It's the same part number for both SRT and non-SRT.
