Default Need New Tires and help!!

Hi Guys,
I just got a call from the dealership where my xf is in for service, and told me that I need new tires. - They quoted me $1,200 for the four of them!!!
About $800 the rear and $400 the front! - Please let me know where to buy good tires at a more reasonable price and also what kind will fit my '05 LTD Roadster.
Thank you all!

Any tire store - NOT a dealer.
You should be able to get all 4 for about $800 fitted & balanced.

You won't get Goodyear F1's for that price! In fact, I don't know of any decent high performance tires that you can get for $800 out the door. I'm sure a lot of folks would be interested in recommendations of tires/stores that will do it for that price.

Telling you $1,200 for four tires installed is not enough information. You might actually be getting a decent price - probably not, but sometimes you'd be surprised. What tires did they quote you on?

4 Yokahama Advan S4's were about a thousand bucks for four from Tirerack.com and my service guy installed them for about $100. You're going to pay that for decent tires.

I paid $870 for a OEM size set of all season Conti's for my '04 coupe installed. Just put a set of Michelin sport PS2's on my SRT6, 285/35/19 in the rear and 245/35/18 on front, that hit me for about $1,550 mounted & balanced. I personally think the Conti's are a good tire, but they wear out fast.

Yes! If you want an economical ultra high performance summer tire (which is most likely what you want living in FL) you will probably do just fine with the Kumho Ecsta SPT. You can get 4 at tirerack for $492 + shipping. Might cost up to $30 or so per wheel for mounting, balancing, etc. due to low profile and TPMS. All inclusive, should cost around $650. Check with local tire retailers to see if they carry Kumho. If they do request they match Tirerack's price (including the shipping cost), otherwise order them and have them drop shipped to an installer or have them delivered to your door.

$1,200 sounds good depending on what tire they quoted you. I paid about $1,600 for Michelin PS 2's (18/19 staggered) mounted balanced and filled with Nitrogen, Plus $80 for an alignment...watch those dealerships though, mine wanted the same price for the Michelin PS 2's but wanted to charge $50 per for mounting.

Good luck!

Order from tirerack.com and have a local shop mount and balance. It is only like $25 per tire by me to have tires mounted and balanced.

I had the all-season Conti's and got 34,000 miles on them...

Noticed your location was North Carolina. Where do you shop for tires for your Crossfire? I am in the Raleigh - Durham area and was just curious if you found a good tire store. Lord knows there are a bunch of bad ones around here.

Cool Re: Need New Tires and help!!

Hi! I have gotten to know the guy's at Colony Tire at Davis & High House pretty well since we moved here. First the Jeeps and now the Crossfire...they are friendly, fairly fast, very knowledgeable but they can't cut any deals, LOL! I am going to miss that about Houston...I always knew where I could go get a deal there. The Colony Tire on 64 does the Nitrogen filling on site.
So where are you? We are on the very northern edge of Cary/Morrisville/Carpenter just south of RTP. I've seen a Yellow Roadster out a couple days on 54 is that you? Can you join us for the Tail of the Dragon run? 650-1257 if you'd like to GTG in town somewhere.

My rear one's were slick at about 23,000, so I bought a pair of used tire's for the rear and ran them for around 3 or 4K. Then had them all replaced, I thought the fronts were still in fair shape till they came off the car and the insides were almost slick at 27,000. I think they had very good traction though, even in the snow when I still had good tread.

UNC4life, I'm in Greensboro - I bought my last tires from Discount Tire.
Go to any tire dealer, Merchants etc. they're all cheaper than the dealers.
I found a range of $50 difference in just an oil change yesterday from dealers 15 miles apart.

Hey spensley! Have I got a deal for you...might be a little bit of a drive though. I have found a local dealer that is really working with me and now I'm kicking myself for not going to them when I found the plugs in my original Conti's. I called this morning and these are the prices they quoted me...if you want to take them up on the deal just give them my name (Charles Unrein).
Michelin PS 2's
front @ $228.85 each
rear @ $347.38 each
mount & balance $65.
alignment $80.
OR THE
Continental's
front $121.08 each
rear $278.68 each
mount & balance $65.
alignment $80.
The Michelin PS 2's are the hottest tire going for the Crossfire...I found my Conti's had plugs so I purchased my PS 2's at Colony Tire at that time for a little over $1,600 which is why I'm kicking myself now...especially since they couldn't do the alignment at Colony. The Michelins are in stock and can be installed anytime...the Conti's have to be ordered w/3-4 day delivery.
The dealer is Leith Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler in Wendell, NC just on the East side of Raleigh...From our location I find it real easy to jump on the 540 to 64 then the first exit off 64. If interested and you have time to run over there (sorry I'm new to Raleigh moving from TX and have no reference for Greensboro yet) They know how to treat a customer...I have had them fix and repaint the door edge chips and install the lighted door sills ($352...part & $114 labor)...they will be doing all my service from now on as I haven't found one flaw in their work or pricing compared even to their sister dealership in Cary. The Cary dealership will not discount their parts (at all, These guy's are giving me a 25% break on parts) and I was quoted $50 each for mount and balance tire and again to install the lighted sills they estimated over $300...Yeah they are conveniently close but for that kind of money I'll definitely be driving over to the Wendell dealership.
This deal applies to anyone...just use my name when ordering.
Just dial 919-366-7000 and ask for Ace Platero service advisor and be sure to use my name. Hope we can GTG in the near future!

Terry

Just put the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season on my Roadster for $1,005. Mounted Balanced and all, very pleased with the tire so far!

Hi guys,
I can't thank you enough for your advice. - They did quote me $1,200 for the Continental Sport Contact 2, which are the same I have now. Somewhere around $800 for the rear and $400 for the front.
To be honest with you I am tight on budget now and I think i will go with the Kumho SPT. I've read from some o you that is an OK tire and can get them all installed and balanced for under $600.
Thanks again you all!

Thanks. I am in Hilllsborough. Nope the yellow Crossfire isn't me. I have used Colony in the past. They are OK.

It is going to be a while before I need tires. But this is good info.
