Assuming you are driving an N/A Crossfire and ignoring just how absolutely retarted 20x8.5 on all four corners is... You'll want to preserve the stock overall diameter as much as possible (due to wheel speed sensors, speedometer accuracy, and brake design)

And since I don't expect you to know how to work a tire caluclator, let me do if for you and post the sizes...

Rear = 255/30R20
Front = 225/30R20

That's preserving the factory overall diameter (within 2%), widths, and fitment assuming you did your homework on the rim offsets.

Good luck.

Thanks I ordered a staggered set with 20X10 rear but the shop screwed me over and to ship back and have a 25% restocking fee I'll prabably just keep them . They didn't even come with the tires I ordered a wheel/tire package but the company screwed me over

thanks again

Also, a friendly warning:

If you didn't do you homework, don't be suprised if the offsets (depth of the rim when installed) aren't the same as stock and you are required to purchase H&R wheels spacers and extended lug nuts to keep your tires from rubbing your suspension parts.

^ I love that calculator.

Ok. a little tire theory for you...

The first three digit number in the tire size is the width of the tire in millimeters. Note 255 is wider than 225. The two digit number in the middle after the slash is the "profile". It's a % of the width.

-255/30 is a 255mm wide tires with a sidewall 30% of the width (76.5mm)
-225/35 is a 225mm wide tire with a sidewall 35% of the width (67.5mm)
As you can see, the 255/30 has a thicker (taller) sidewall than a 225/35.
One other thing you should note is that when trying to stay within 3% of your stock overall diameter, you do not have alot of room to beef up the sidewalls.

All number are subject to some manufacturer's tolerances and the tire inductries lack of standards... but the general idea remains the same.

If you chose to match tire widths you would have a higher profile on the rear wheels. But you can't compare the profile of a 255 to a 225.

The overall diameter of the sizes I gave you match the stock diamters within 2%.

It looks as if the sidewall is under alot of stress with 8.5" rims!

I thought about that but the stock 7.5" rim doesn't stretch the fronts at all. An extra inch should wrap the front like the rears are stock. And I've seen 8" wide wheels support 225s without stretching them at all.

Guess it depends on the tire manufacturer.

3.8% off. Too far. Try a little thinner on the rear. 235/35R20
And to address Max's concerns, make the front a little wider too... 235/30R20

Check the availability on those.

^ Hmm, availability doesn't look good on those.

OK, I just logged into tirerack and did a search...

245/30-20 (Rear)
235/30-20 (Front)

^ Available in Contis and Pirellis, and all within 2% of stock.

I'm going to make a nusance of myself here and ask a question that has probably been answered before. If it has please direct me to the link, but here goes.

I'm pretty uneducated on tyre/wheel fitment procedures so I'll try to be as specific as possible.

Getting 20" for the XF

fronts to run 225-35-20
rears to run 275-30-20

on these rims Bazo 36 Miami: All Wheels Australia :: BRANDS :: BAZO WHEELS :: Bazo 36- 19X8, 20X8.5 HYPER (ALSO IN BLACK!)

Aparently I can get these in the correct offset and the merchant tells me yes yes yes they'll fit mate...but to my knowledge he has never fitted a XF nor does he know about the fitment issues on our cars i'm guessing (e.g. ball joint, spring rub, brake caliper etc)

What I'm worried about is...well...will they fit???

Any feedback guys would be muchly appreciated.

Back to somebody's original comment, you need to keep the diameter (tallness, in effect) the same or very close to original OEM specs - just about 25" up front and 26" in the rear. The original rims where 18" and 19", but you are changing to 20" front and back. So, you need to select a 20" tire that maintains the 25" and 26" relationship.

OK?

You picked a 275/30R20 for the rear. That's fine; it's about 26.5" tall, close to 26".

You picked a 225/35R20 for the front. It's 26.2" tall, which is too much taller than 25". Remember?

So try a 225/30R20 up front. It's about 25.4" tall which is a lot closer to the 25" you're trying to maintain.

Putting 20" wheels both front and rear is unusual, but it seems that this tire size works: 225/30R20 (25.4") front and 275/30R20 (26.2") rear.

I know it's all pretty confusing, but your car should look swell with 20"s all around.

PS: Are you sure that all of the rims you are buying are 20"s? The Bazo link you just listed says 19" and 20", which makes more sense. All of this stuff is pretty expensive, so double/triple check everything before you order it. Don't take my word for this - try to get familiar with that tire/rim calculator yourself until you are comfortable with all of this mumbo jumbo. It costs too much money to make a mistake.

Good luck, mate.

Dwight is right. ( )! I think it looks like a 19/20 staggered set. That's what I run. I added spacers to keep OEM offsets (35 Front/22 Rear), then needed 5 mm more to clear that darned balljoint nut in front.

Be aware that the tire width (225 or 235) along with the taller profile (only 1/4") might get you too close to the upper ball joint nut. Spacers needed then Not expensive ($50-$75 US/pair).

Dwight and Max thanks so much for your input. Yes they are 20" all round and apparently spacers are illigal in Australia...why...beats me but oh well.

Will post pics up if I end up going with this but it is looking promising currently. Fingers crossed.

Once again thanks for your help
