Default TPMS new tires

Hello all. Im a noob here with the Crossfire and need to do a tirechange. I have taken over the maintenance on my GFs 04 Coupe and Im putting new tires on it for her. I putting Kumho SPTs on it and I have never had to deal with a TPMS monitoring system. Is there anything i will have to do different? I wish i could turn the TPMS off because i would rather check my tires like we used to do in the olden days... Thanks all

Not that I know of. They are put on the ends of the valve stems, the place where you get them changed out will know there are TPMS monitors on there.

You can take them off but you'll have that pesky "low pressure" light on on your dash

Question Re: TPMS new tires

That's a really good question!

Last night I put new rims and tires on my roadster, but I bought 4 used TPMS sensors from LKQ on ebay and installed them.

60 miles and no dummy light. When does anyone think they would have to be "reset" at the dealer, or are they "plug-n-play"?

P.S. Falken 452's 275/30-20 rear and 235/35-19 front.

Sweldon, if your just changing tires there should be no impact. Put the new tires on and go. I think you will like the Kumho SPT's. I have them on the rear of my Aero (came that way used) and I am pretty happy with them.

Also, you should still check your tires regularly to be sure they are properly inflated. The TPMS will only come on when one(or more) tires drops more than 10%(?). Not sure on the percentage drop. So keep that tire pressure gauge in the car.

cool thanks guys. this car is only driven 1K a year if that and the michelin pilot sports on them and they only lasted 10K. I just hate those TPMS sensors, i would fill the tires correctly and than 10 miles down the road they would come back on.....

Are you saying that you are loosing pressure? Go back to the shop that put your new tires on and have them find the leak and fix it! You could have a bad sensor if the air in all tires is within a pound or two of the same (and you dont have a leak).

Welcome, Sweldon!

Try the magnet trick!
Pass a donut-shaped magnet over each valve stem & voila', end of sensor issue!
There have been several other recent threads about this. Do a search for "tire sensors" & you'll see a few references to your issue!
