Default Wheel Alignment?

Greetings From AK,

I just put a new set of shoes on my XF, and had the alignment checked while it was in the garage.

The rear was a simple adjustment to bring it back to factory spec, but the front was not so easy.

The Tech told me he set the the toe in, but the bolts used at the factory wil not allow changing the caster/camber with out replacment. The new bolts are about $100 + labor.

Any one else have this issue?

Can I get the bolts from a MB shop?

Thanks for any input.

1. True, camber/caster are not adjustable.
2. What was the issue with camber/caster up front? Out of "spec" *may* not need any correction.
3. The correction bolts are nowhere near $100...I got mine at a Chrysler dealer (I wanted more neg camber than the spec)

The Tech stated that the LF was 1/2 a degree out, did not say caster or camber adn the RF was 3/10 of a degree out, again did not state caster or camber.

What did you set your camber to and why?

If you have a good alignment number I would like to know how it works.

Thanks,
Log.

You really need to know which measurement(s) were out and in what direction(s) in order to make any sort of decision.

You really don't have a lot of choice for what to set the camber at...even with the correction bolt, you really don't get true adjustability...you just get about a half degree either way from the oem bolt, depending on which way you orient the notch.

I have about -1.6 camber up front because I want the max possible in "stock" form for autocross.

he is right/wrong. front camber can only be adjusted so much on a stock car you should have NO problem having it aligned if you are lowered i have seen cars that need to use more than one camber bolt to adjust the front.

So what does the -1.6 give you as far as feel and performance?

How much was the correction bolts you purchased?

My car is all stock with the exception of th eexhaust. I ran duel pipes and SS Super Trapps out the back in the stock location in the center of the car.

Thanks to all for the info so far with this issue.

the extra neg camber gives you a little more front end grip...nothing you'd notice on the street, but for autocrosses that are sometimes decided by thousandths of a second, I'll take every bit of grip I can get...helps out a bit with autox tire wear too

I don't remember how much the bolts were...but it's really just 2 bolts (although it might be referred to has a "correction kit" in the parts catalog...not sure)...can't be even close to $100.

true of many modern cars though...few people really have any reason to be adjusting camber
