Default Spring pad question

A couple months ago I installed an Eibach Pro Kit in my car. I was smart enough to mark down the part # to the rear spring pads but forgot to do so when replacing the front springs (in a rush) I seem to remember someone on this forum mentioning that the spring pads on our cars have a marking other then the part # to ID the thickness of the pad. I found the part #'s several times on a search but could'nt find anything else. Are there any markings that identify the thickness of the pad without removing the front springs?

Hi BrianBrave,
Thanks for the response. I have the part #s but I think the part # is only visable with the spring removed, is that right? Someone once posted there is a mark of some type to identify which pad is in the car without taking the suspension apart. They said you only needed to pull the wheel and stick your head up in there to see the marking. Maybe its wishfull thinking but I would prefer to know whats in there without taking the car apart. I would hate to disassemble the front to find out that my spring pads are 5mm (the thinest)and then have to put it back together and get it re-aligned

The part number is on the "spring" side of the pad - but there are dots (or nubs) on the inner part of the pad that tell you what the part number is. the third from the last digit of the part number is a 1,2,3,4 etc..

For example - a front pad with one dot = 5mm (...01 84) two dots = 9mm (... 02 84) etc.. this way you can tell which one is installed in your ride by just touch (if you can't see it)

Front:
A 210 321 01 84 (5mm)
A 210 321 02 84 (9mm)
A 210 321 03 84 (13mm)
A 210 321 04 84 (17mm)
A 210 321 05 84 (21mm)

Rear:
A 210 325 01 84 (5mm)
A 210 325 02 84 (9mm)
A 210 325 03 84 (13mm)
A 210 325 04 84 (17mm)

The pad below has only one dot.

I purchased a set of four at my MB dealer for like less then $25

Hi Guys,

I'm also thinking about replacing the Spring pads on my limited.
Just a technical question : are they easy to replace ? How do you proceed ?
Thanks for your help on that topic.
Cheers

OK

So The lower the pad number / thickness = a lower stance for your car?

Does the pad soften the ride?

Yes - lower number = lower stance - but only marginally
assuming you replaced the 21mm pads in the front with 5mm pads - you would only drop a little more then 1/2 inch. Great for fine tuning.

No - Not that I could ever tell

What is the stock size of the 05 Crossfire pads Front & Rear?

How hard is it to replace the pads while installing lowering springs?

Depends on the factory set up - I had the thickest pads in the back (17mm) and the second thinest in the front (9mm) but the pads are cheap - about $30 for a set of four

Easy to replace when you remove the springs.

If your lowering your Crossfire - dont forget to shave the bump pad (A) in the shocks.

Hi Guys,

I'm interested in replacing those pads. Then, I removed one rear wheel this morning to try to find the part number and I didn't find anything like that.
So I've decide to take some pictures and share with you just to know if I was looking where needed.
Firts I need to be sure that removing the wheel is enough to have access to that Spring Pad part number.
If yes, from the pictues, would you tell me where I should look.

Thanks so much for your help.

You have 13mm (210 325 03 84) pads installed on the rears.

In your last picture you can see the three little nubs on the edge of the pad.

Thanks so much for your help.
So I have 2 inches between the edge of the fender and the tire for the front and 2.5 inches (maybe a bit more) for the rear. Then it should be better to replace the rear spring pads only with some 5 mm. Don't you think so ??

What the hell is this? I've never heard about doing this!

Does this really have to be done?

Can you better explain what need to be done? And why?

SHAVE WHAT? How much?

If you cut your springs or install eibach springs you'll need to cut about one inch off of the bump stop or your shock will bottom out. I know, I tried it without cutting the stops and the ride was quite hard on deep bumps.

I made the mistake of not cutting the bump stops in the shocks after lowering my car and the first time you hit a good sized bump you will wish you cut them down. I cut mine almost in half and threw away the more solid looing half.

Thanks for your answer.
Are those spring pads easy to replace ? How long does it take ? I'm going to replace the two rear ones with some 5 mm instead of 13 mm.

Cheers
