20mm spacers in back, stock wheels ???

Default 20mm spacers in back, stock wheels ???

Has anyone run a 20mm spacer per side in the rear of a lowered Crossfire using the oem tires and wheels? I know most have gone with 12mm spacers like Andrew and many others on this forum. I'm asking because I'm still looking at a set of 18x10.5 wheels with a 22mm offset and I'm not sure if I will have clearence issues with a 295/35 18 tire. Using a wheel and tire calculator I'm told I will need 20mm of fender clearence over OEM. I think I'll need to roll the fenders to clear . . . However, if some one on the forum is running a lowered car on OEM tires and wheels with 20mm spacers per side and has no issues . . . then I should be fine. Thanks for helping.

I have some 20mm spacers. I had a different use, but stock lugs aren't long enough for the rim and 20mm spacers. you will have to cut your own from longer ones. My wheels with 20mm had a slight wobble, changed to 15mm and were fine. More thread entered the hub. Becareful not to go to far because you will hit the ebrake inside the hub. You can put your lugs on, and jack up the rear and spin the wheels if not clicking or rubbing then your good. My whole purpose was to use stock lugs, you may want to find the clearance first and then just cut your lugs to fit.

Thanks for the reply cruzinquick, I did a search and saw you made a similar post. You mentioned yours were used with something other then a stock wheel. I'm hoping to find someone out there that has used a 20mm spacer on the stock tires and wheels with no clearence issues. I'm not looking to purchase a set of 20mm spacers, but getting an answer to this question will let me know if I'll be able to clear a 295/35 18 tire on a 18x10.5 wheel with a 22mm offset without rolling the fenders.

20mm spacers measure out to 13/16" thickness, sometimes the mm measuring tapes are hard to find. Its the 10 1/2" wheel width that will put you in the fender. Even if your just clearing by a bit, making a sharp turn might put them into the fender. A tire calculator puts the width on the new tire at 11.61 vs. 10.03 for the stock tire. Your going to roughly need 1 1/2" total to clear. So figure 3/4" on each side of the tire and you got it.

That was my thought too. Just to clear this up. If a stock wheel is 9x19 w/ an ET of 22mm and the wheel I'm looking at is 10.5x18 with the same 22mm ET. Being the new wheel is 1 and 1/2 inches wider with the same offset, then the new wheel should extend in towards the suspension 3/4 of an inch (plenty of room in there) and out towards the fender 3/4 of an inch. If a 20mm spacer is 13/16ths of an inch thick (more then 3/4 of an inch) and a lowered car running the spacers on the OEM wheels and tires has no clearence issues then I should clear the 295/35-18 on the 10.5x18 wheel. The tire calculator I used explained that a 295 tire would require an extra 20mm of clearence to the fender . . . a 285/35-18 would require an extra 15mm. So I'm wondering if anyone out there running a 20mm spacer on a stock wheel and tire has had any issues with fender clearence?
