Default Inner Tie Rod

The local Chrysler dealer says that my front inner tie rods need to be replaced, but Chrysler only sells the whole assembly which is upwards of $800.

I've looked all over and for some reason I can't find the Chrysler replacement part of just the inner tie rods. Can anyone confirm that a Mercedes SLK tie rod would fit?

Thanks.

If you hit something hard enough to bend the inner tie rod, I would suggest replacing the whole drag link.
Here is the OEM drag link assembly:

Here is an aftermarket that I have installed on an SLK when I worked at a MB dealer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-Crossfire-Transverse-Center-Drag-Link-Outer-Tie-Rods-Assembly-5098996AA-/120695242266?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ACrossfire&hash=item1c19ff3e1a&vxp=mtr

No choice. It doesn't separate. If you bend any piece of the Drag link the whole thing has to be replaced because it is one unit.

I just had the entire tie rod assembly (Rock Auto = $169) replaced. App. $220 installation plus $89 alignment. Base Crossfire; 131K miles (shooting for 300k). Go Rock Auto.

Seems like over kill for a worn tie rod end. Why do they want to sell you the whole assembly when all other cars Mercedes included sell just the end. 25.00 end or 250.00 assembly, that's a no brainer. Can you not inspect the tie rod end and get one for a 2004 SLK-320 ?

So has anyone actually used these?

I have a bad end, and am thinking of just replacing the whole thing - I understand this includes all tie rod ends, etc - is that right?

NTB wants $450 for it - but I wonder, does that include, perhaps, items not included here?

I am currently in the middle of this job,..having trouble getting the old assemble off...we removed the nuts and are banging on it but it doesn't seem to want to come apart..is there a link to a thread somewhere for the service procedure? Thanks...I'll monitor for the answer as it is in the air as we speak..

Don't be hammering on it or you might end up needing more than the tie rod assembly. You can download the service manual here. It will tell you how to remove it in the steering section. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ollection.html

Thanks, we ended up using a impact type pickle fork and the parts released their hold. We added a new steering stabilizer while we were under it. I am at an alignment shop now waiting for it. Tracked nice on the way here. Peace

This part on Rock Auto states it was made for EU market. Will this work?
