Default SRT-6 Noise on turning

Hi

I wonder if I can ask a bit of advice. I have recently bought my SRT (I live in the UK). I have a click when turning. I assumed it was the Steering Damper as I had read these can go, I bought one and changed it the weekend.

The click is still there when under it I believe it is coming from the powersteering pump box (this item Chrysler Crossfire 3.2 Petrol 2004 POWER STEERING PUMP BOX 2024610701 1244611105 | eBay) it is not a constant clicking it is just at one point not at full-lock but mid turn.

Any idea, I wondered if a common issue or something someone has seen before.

Thanks

Dominic

Are you sure things like the upper/lower ball joints are OK, The tie-rod ends, stabilizer bushings, just an overall front suspension 'wiggle/shake' done? Given the complexity of the front end, I would not think a steering box would be my first 'guess' for the symptom. Good luck!

I assume you have checked and verified that the fluid level in the PS reservoir is correct ?

I Know a silly question, but I had a quick look and the power steering reservoir cap on the SRT seems to be under the air intake pipe, do I have to take that off to get at it.

Excuse the stupid question and see that the pipe just pulls up enough to get the cap off....

Power steering fluid was a touch off but topped up and the noise is still there. I will have a good look tomorrow, as very original so a bush somewhere might be a likely candidate.

A click is usually metal on metal, so you'll need to put it on a lift to find the culprit. My guess is either the front stabilizer bar ends or tie rods.

A bit of an update and hopefully a bit of help if anyone has any ideas of the best route. I had the car up for a mechanic to have a quick look before it is booked in properly next week. It is coming from the power steering box area there are clicks now rather than one click on turning it feels like the likely candidate is the power steering box or more specifically the arm that is off here and attached to the rack...Chrysler Crossfire 3.2 Petrol 2004 POWER STEERING PUMP BOX 2024610701 1244611105 .

Is that a common issue and should I replace pump or is the arm that seems to attach as a separate item as my gut tells me it's the arm moving on the teeth making the clicking. The car only has 50000 miles so not overly high miles.

I might be way off but wanted to try and get parts sorted prior to the visit.

Does your steering wheel look level, with the wheels straight. Has the steering linkage been replaced? Where the pitman arm connects to the steering linkage, if not installed properly, may slip. Just something else to look at.

It is level and the wheels are straight just the noise when turning the wheel looking at the parts on the steering box the pitman arm seems logical simply because of the noise as it sound like that is moving internally. Thamks for the name of that thing I had no idea it was called a pitman arm, so helps with the search

The issue is it does not effect the steering at all just the noise...
