Re: License/Registration Fee Rant
In Kansas, there is a $45 fee for the registration, then you pay property tax on the depreciated value of the car. Vehicles in Kansas depreciate 15% every January 1. The SRT-6 is based on an average price of $39000. (Kansas arrived at this by allegedly getting data from the vehicle's manufacturer.) Thus the first year you register your vehicle (if you bought it new in 2005) will be whatever the mill levy is in your county x $39000. This will be prorated on the number of months remaining in 2005. Then in 2006, it will be 15% less than that. And in 2007, 15% less than that total from 2006. Of course this all too confusing. All I know that it costs me for 2008 is $432 in taxes + $45 registration fee = $477 which is close to what you are paying.
