Because if it does, then we Yanks aren't paying $36,000 either, depending on which state, tack on anywhere from 0% to 10% sales tax and plus various registration and fees.

VAT is a price killer for me when I shop in the UK, but hey, I guess you got to thank Margy for that.

I think price comparisons across countries are never fair, there are just too many variables to consider.
