Oh my! I bought the Black Mamba and didn't even know it!
Hi Folks, I just wanted to introduce myself and share a little story. I have been scouring the threads since I discovered this awesome car. Seems like a really nice community on here. My other rides are a 2005 Lotus Elise and a Triumph Daytona 675.
My story...
It all happen by accident. I was all set to buy a used 06 Civic SI and after researching cars in general I kept coming across and couldn't believe the value of buying a used SRT/6 Crossfire. It basically boiled down to it costing the same as a new Civic EX or used Civic SI; But wait! Why do that when getting a used low mileage SRT-6 seemed to be a much better deal and a fantastic value? Civic or SRT-6...Civic or SRT-6, I only had to do that mental dance twice. LOL! It's really was a no brainer. Basically a $46K car for about what a new civic econobox cost!
Interestingly though when i bought my SRT-6 I simply called a dealer that was on EBay. I was figuring on being able to get a nice low milage factory stocker with not much drama in it's life with a warranty lol. That would not end up being the case.
I ended up flying out to IL to pick it up. When i got there I noticed the rear wheels wear completely worn. I actually could not help noticing this because every time i stepped on the gas it spun. Yes literally every time no matter what i did. I talked about it with the dealer and they went half with me on some new Conti's so that I could safely drive it home. They did mention it needed new tires but didn't realize that it was literally un-drivable.
After the tires were changed and I was on my way back to NY. I finally got a chance to step on it getting onto an on-ramp. I was like holy **** wtf? It just took off like a rocket. I am used to driving very fast cars. I had a turbo Miata that had 300hp and a Lotus Elise with a turbo as well. Unfortunately most of my time recently has been driving a slug the Hummer H3 so i figured i was just used to driving a slug.
Well after the night time cold air drive of 800 miles I just new something was just not right with this car. It did not feel like a 13.5 1/4-mile car to me. My a$$ dyno hinted something might be going on with this car. Evidently my a$$ is smarter then me lol, as it would be right. Finding a Drag Race schedule in the glovebox later only fueled my thoughts.
My curiosity got the best of me so I started to hunt around on the internet. I first found this forum and then figured I would punch in the vin # and see what happens... Low and behold. I discover I have Chi-Town SRT/6 aka "The Black Mamba". At one time the fastest all motor SRT-6 on the board. Over 400 post about this car. I emailed Abe and he was kind enough to fill me in on some of the history of the car. Thanks Abe. The car really is a little screamer. I can't just floor the car as it will spin the Conti tires right off
These cars are really the deal of the century. Everyone who see's it loves it and are amazed when I tell them how fast they are and the history of them.
Mmm, imagine all that lol!
On a side not I am going to have to talk with the dealer that sold me the car. The big selling point with me and on with them was it had 1.5 years left on the warranty. Obviously that has been possibly partially compromised in terms of the drive train.
In any event I thought I would share my lil Crossfire journey. it has been interesting to say the least. I really do like this car. It hit all my marks... The SRT-6 is rare, a sleeper, practical and a very handsome looking car!!
Cheers All!
