The service manuals for the SLK350s state that when using any spec 229.5 oil you MUST use a fleece filter or risk damaging the engine. The paper filters are known to start deteriorating @ around 5K and their residue can cause clogging of the oil journals. I've always used Manns over a dozen times in both XFs and never a collapse. And both get 10K oil changes!
