Lug bolts for aftermarket wheels
 
Does anyone know what size/length lugs I need to buy for my aftermarket rims. The lugs they sent me initially were too long and instead of shortening them I bought some spacers. Well idk what happened but about 2 months of no problems last week while driving down the highway my wheel flew off the car and passed me. I am now terrified to drive the car even though it has been repaired. I want to take the spacers off and just install some shorter lugs that won't rub the parking brake but I'm very confused on what to get. Any help would be greatly appreciated I can't afford to keep shelling out 1000 bucks for losing a wheel

Remove one lug bolt.
Measure from the end of the inner taper thru the rotor to the back side of the hub.
This is how long a bolt should be from the end of the taper to the end of the bolt.
add the length from the end of the bolt taper to the top of the bolt head and you have the total length.
( it ain't rocket science )

The threads are in the hubs, the lug bolts pass through the rotors.

Be grateful that 2 wheels did not go flying by, I'm sure the bill would have been even higher!!!

On the rear lugs u dont want no more than 3/4" sticking out the back of the rim. Measure and cut if necessary. No need to buy shorter lugs if your issue is bolts being too long now.

ok so i have a picture here with the left bolt being the oem lug and the other being the one that the rim company sent to me could someone please tell me if it is infact a conical lug and not ball and if i would have a leg to stand on if i attempted to get my money back for the damages of my wheel falling off because it was the improper lug. thanks in advance guys

I can tell you that it IS a conical lug bolt, but could not advise you on getting your money back.
If the source specifically listed these as compatible with the Crossfire ( and still do ), then you might have a case.

Thank you for the answer. It's not that they specified it as compatible it is what the company sent me with my rims to mount them so I just figured oh well they sent me these lugs for this model rim it must be exactly what they need. I looked it up after the fact and find out the rims take ball seat

OK, then the question is how did you pay for them ?
If PayPal, then lodge a complaint with them, also if eBay, try a complaint there.
If a credit card, try contacting the credit card company.
If you end up going directly against the supplier, good luck ! ( you could try Better Business Bureau )

Alright I'll give it a shot. It was through rimsdealer.com if anyone was curious. Thanks for the help

So what is the "standard" length for lug bolts? I have looked and cannot find the length. I have Mandrus Milleniums on BB but need a new set as they have been stretched

Size from an SRT is 38mm (1.5") to the start of the spherical radius.
Overall length is 61.10mm (2.40")
I'm assuming the NA is the same.

How could you stretch them at 80 ft/lb of torque.

The OE shank length is 40mm for both NA and SRT6

You Canadians can never agree on anything.
Is it 38mm or 40mm ?
Let's compromise on 39mm and have a Molsons.

O WAIT ! I see, in Canada where it's cold they are 38mm, but down here in the South where it's HOT, they stretch out to 40mm !

I measured a bolt with a vernier, I'll measure the other three and see if there is a difference.
Result
The max length was 38.6 mm

My car painter used a gun, and I think he over torqued them several times. When I picked BB up, she was clicking at both rears. I bought 38's from Discount tire this morning.

You cannot noticeably stretch them, the hub threads would have been stripped if you did.
If they were clicking then they were too long for the job in hand.
Do not forget to use the proper shape of stud to match the seat on the rims, either ball or taper seat, use the wrong one and you will wreck the stud and/or rim and the wheel will come loose.
