Default Discussed a million times, but... (oil change)

As the title says, this has been discussed a million times, but please don't take offence

I am going to give my an oil and filter change, although I have only done around 500 miles in the car and it was supposedly done before I collected it, I have no evidence.

Even with the correct parts number, it's not always easy to find the parts here so I just want to check that I have the correct parts.

Three local autoparts shops don't stock (and don't seem to want to order) anything starting with a zero and keep telling me a 5W40 is fine . Another two only stock Castrol 0W30. I have always been a fan of Castrol (using it on many other vehicles) but it has MB specs 229.31 and 229.51 (which, according to MB don't have their approval)

Anyways, this leaves me with purchasing online.

Looking for for Mobil 1 0W30 here, I come accross two versions: "Fuel Economy" and "ESP". "Fuel Economy" (which even the name sounds wrong for the XF ) doesn't claim MB specs (it's an ACEA A1/B1 oil) and ESP has MB 229.31, 229.51 & 229.52.

There is, however, a Mobil 1 0W40 called "New Life" which has 229.3 and 229.5, so meets the specs needed.

For the oil filter, that was easier, I have found a Bosch 1457429263 which shows the MB reference A 000 180 22 09.

For the air filters, I have found the K&N AA-33-2290 pretty cheap, but I live in a very dusty area, so I am thinking of going with a Mann C2861-2.

Could you gentlmen (and/or ladies) confirm that I am not crazy and those are indeed correct parts?

Many thanks.

Jac - With regard to your oil options, I think the Castrol 0W30 (made in Belgium), a 5W40 that meets spec or the M1 0W40 New Life are all fine choices. There's a post somewhere here on the forum regarding MB back-spec'ing to 5W40. I've used the Castrol (referred to as a "thick" 0W30) with no issues.

We love our Mann fleece filters here on the forum, but the Bosch equivalent in N. America is part # L3477.

The Mann air filter is #1120940304 and you'll need 2.

It sometimes helps to use a 2003 MB SLK320 as the reference vehicle when doing parts searches.

needswings.com, autohausaz.com and pelicanparts.com are all good parts sources and offer international shipping.

Good luck with your new ride!

The Mann filter number that you mention is the Mercedes part number.
The actual Mann part number is C28612 .

your too worried about oil . any good synthetic 0w-40 or 5w-40 well be fine . we ran agip oil in all of out Ferrari's , don't think it was Mercedes spec. don't think Ferrari cared . we drag raced high horse power motors , never used synthetic , no problems . I do use syn oil in my srt6 , but really don't care if it's mobile one , castrol , agip or Pennzoil . if your not in a very cold climate 5w-40 or 10w-40 synthetic well work great .

Thank you all for the input, I will stick with the parts mentioned in my OP seeing that nobody tells me they are incorrect

Note of caution; full synthetic 5w-40 is also common in a "diesel" formula, by various brands. Just thought I'd add that, though it is probably common knowledge.
