Manufacture day and month
Hi
Can anybody advise how to locate the tag that tells what month and day the XF was manufactured? Regards FITH  |
Re: Manufacture day and month
On LHD cars (USA) it is on the driver's side door just below the latch.

Re: Manufacture day and month
I looked at my data plate and it has a manufacture date of 04/04. The vehicle is listed as an 05. Is this correct?

Hi donsxfire
I am located in Australia and in some states here the car would be registered as a o4 model as it is the date of manufacture, and not the year when it was sold. My car was bought interstate and was listed as a o4 model and when the transfer of registration was done in my state they looked at the year of manufacture and not the model and now it is registered as a 03 model |

To: fire in the hole. Thanks for the response. It is listed as a 2005 on the title. I guess thats the most important part. I was just curious about it being manufactured so early in 2004.

Re: Manufacture day and month
My understanding is many sat in storage lots for months before being shipped and delivered. This is why many were built months before the registration date. Because of the pricing early sales were quite slow.:(

Re: Manufacture day and month
Manufacturing date is irrelevant. What counts is whether it complies with a certain year emissions and safety standards. There have been some cars manufactured several years in advance of the model year it is designated as. In some cases, the standards don't change year to year so it could be labeled as the year of manufacture or the forthcoming year.

Re: Manufacture day and month
Late in the Crossfire's production run, there were quite a few cars sitting in Germany & elsewhere manufactured as 2007 models. Daimler-Chrysler petitioned the FEDS and wanted to know if 2007 cars sitting in surplus could be re-badged as 2008 models. No changes were planned between 2007 & 2008, so the FEDS said it was okay for a fee. So some cars are out there with manufacturing dates aligned with 2007 models but the cars have a 2008 VIN number.
And it's not uncommon for a new model car to be produced several months (4-6) in advance of when the new model 1st reaches the sales floor. Allows the pipeline to get filled up. Cars that undergo minor or no changes between model years will have a shorter time window between years. BMW here is SC just had model year change back in August. Plant produces SAVs with mostly minor changes between 2007 & 2008 models. Scheduled as a 3-wk outage. |

Re: Manufacture day and month
The 2005's were released for sale in 2004. I bought my 2005 Roadster brand new June 28, 2004.
