Default U-joint replaced around $100.00

I now have a guy that will replace your U-joint (the one in the middle of your drive shaft) for around $100.00 + shipping before this you had to replace the driveshaft. this is not the flex joints on each end of the driveshaft . you only need to send the rear(short part of drive shaft) see the pictures. if interested let me know . jim

why not just replace the u-joint right? well chrysler and mercedes do not sell the u-joint only . their are only a few places that do, .,I did mine a few years back, and had to use a used u-joint. because out of 10 to 15 shops they all said no. so if you call a driveshaft shop ,they will tell you bring it in and i'm sure we can do it,,when they see it they say no we can't, save a trip just say the u-joint is pined, they will say sorry don't have the tool,, the pining tool cost is $500.00 to 700.00, I found a mechanic that his father use to work for the co. that built and balanced some of the drive shafts for mercedes. he told me he has the tool he just has to find it. if someone finds it can be done other than welding let me know. if welding it ,,the complete shaft has to be rebalanced . I have a spare driveshaft,(srt) remember the srt and the limited do not interchange. jim

special note: a one piece can be made for around $500.00 and new stock driveshaft on ebay is $700.00 to $2000.00

Now I am completely confused, nowhere in the first post does it say that the shaft is replaced, then we are told that it is replaced because the parts are pinned together, then we are told that someone has a pinning tool, and assume it is not replaced.
First you cannot buy a u-joint then you can. I assume the u-joint is pinned to stop it flying apart and having the shafts smash around.
Very in Canada.
The shaft in the picture looks like it has had seven shades of ***** beaten out of it and is only fit for scrap.
A one piece shaft would mean that the flex joints see more work, I see them as a bit flaky anyway and thus they would need replacement sooner.

I found a shop in indiana that would do a 1 piece steel shaft for $300 or $350, ahhh, no it is not a 1 piece shaft using two flex discs, with the angles, that doesn't even make sense. Making the mounting plate would be easy.
And gets rid of the flex discs and the carrier bearing.
My work location changed and was not able to get mine done, I wanted to try for a aluminum anyway, the problem with that is the slip joint in the drive shaft.
But I am in Nashville TN working now, should find a place when I get time to look around, haven't in past few months, city pricing be alittle higher though.
Make the single, need a slip joint, and make a mounting plate to bolt in place of the flex disc and can bolt on new mounts for u joints.
I have changed several u joints with just a good vise and some sockets, usually use a torch to take joint out, alot easier and does not hurt drive shaft, well unless you don't have a clue what a torch is.

one piece shaft, you are correct on the mounting plates ,on one end of the shaft would be a double u-joint and at the transmission plate would be a single u-joint, and yes it would have the slip shaft ( telescopic ) in the middle, I was told each end plate is around 50 to 75. I too have changed a lot of u-joints with a vice ,and or a press and sockets. but those have clips the crossfire does not, the pining tool centers the u-joint and pins it.
if you find a one piece shaft for 350,, and it is a bolt in ,put me down for one. I looked at one in this guy's shop he had made , it looks good.

don't be confused, for the last 5 years i have been told we couldn't replace the u-joint,,which means buy a new or used driveshaft,, now i found a guy that can replace the u-joint, I still don't know where to get this u-joint, i have tried over 15 shops, and just as many auto parts stores and on line with NO LUCK. My guy says he can get it.

you get your driveshaft back still balanced just with a new u-joint

in the pic is the way it came out of the car and yes the center bearing rubber boot was gone and the shaft came loose at around 60mph, banging like no end, we all have been there before, the driveshaft is not hurt, not scrap. when it gets it new u-joint it will go 10.55 at 130 just like it did before. are u still confused?

Why are you thinking it needs a double u joint on the back?
Do not have sharp angles for needing a double.
And just a single on both ends with a slip.

Just curious why a double, doesn't make sense to me, for a few reasons, other than the angle.

it is not me ,I though one on each end was the way to go also. this guy said he has made a lot of them, most for jeeps and c300's, and bmw's. and the one he showed me was with a double on one end and single close to the slip joint,, oh it was about 45" long , check it out with what you find. jim

I wondering if he was wanting to use the double so he could have a shorter driveshaft.

Shame a aluminum slip joint was not so hard to find.

Do you happen to have a flex disc lying around to measure the bolt hole diameter or get the radius.
And bolt hole size?

on our drive shaft he would NOT use a double u-joint but a single on each end. the double is not needed . I do have a flex disc, using the triangle that bolts to our tranny and diff. ,,, is 3 3/4" and hole is for a 1/2" bolt . from what he said we need the pilot bushing on both ends of the driveshaft as it is now..
look on driveshaftshop.com

I was thinking of the end plate would incorporate the pilot bushing, male on one side and the female on the other side to aline everything. or the pilot bushing on the drive plate reaching through the spacer(that takes the place of the flex disc) to the diff and tranny bushing jim

TY for the info.

Bolt hole to bolt hole, 3 3/4
From bolt hole to inbetween two holes probably 4"
Found already made aluminum 3 bolt adapter flange yoke, but it is for bolt hole diameter of 4.3"
Since they make them they could drill to the right diameter.

The pilot bushing would just be making sure the adapter is centered like a hubcentric spacer for our aftermarket wheels.

Or if the flange on the output shaft of trans and the flange one the pinion can be changed out from the 3 bolt to one of the mercedes 4 bolt flanges, then there are many options for cheap 4 bolt yoke flanges from $24 and up.

These all have 4 bolt, and they use the same flex disc.
But, figuring out with has the same spline output shaft.
Since it looks like the bigger engines had the 4 bolt flanges, and probably larger output shafts in transmission, so would be isfferwnt spline counts.
Seals, if different could take to napa and say you want a seal to fit thus with a diameter of this.
Didn't some of those on the list have the same auto as what is in the crossfire?
Mine is the nsg370 manual.
Biggest thing if we could figure out the bolt hole diameter if the 4 bolt, then can double check for yoke flanges, then would have to find some or a business that has some that would send measurements.
