Replacement Key Fob - Do they work

Hi,
The plastic case on one of my 04 Crossfire key fobs is in bad shape. The key works and the buttons for lock and unlock work. I found replacement Crossfire key fobs on Ebay (see attached pictures). Has anyone bought one of these replacement key fob cases? I want to make sure that I can take my current key fob apart and install my key and the electronics circuit card in the new replacement key fob case without anyhttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...ced3ef295c.jpg
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...c5c7af3036.jpg
trouble. I would appreciate any comments, procedures, etc. Thanks.

They work just fine, I put one of these together with the good parts of my old fob.
There is a PDF on how to do this in the Fob repair section in the link in my signature.
Just make sure you do not lose the chip inside your old fob and secure it well in the new fob.

OneHundred80,
Thanks. I'll order one and use your instructions.

I was just reading in a different thread on the same subject that although a duplicate key ordered through Ebay will open the door, the transceiver in the key has to be programmed for you to drive the car.

I once got burned for the same thing ordering a FOB on Ebay for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sure, the key inside the FOB fit the door lock but that was all it did. I ended up paying the Chrysler dealer almost 300 bucks for a duplicate that would allow me to drive the car.

As a side note, I am done with Chryslers and all the BS that comes with it. I have owned a total of five Chryslers in my life. It's Japanese makes from here on.

You are reading his post wrong, he will use all his fob components except the case.

Hi,
I just received the replacement key fob that I purchased on Ebay. It came from China and what a piece of junk. It won't stay together and the plastic embossed circle for the key is to large for the original key. My opinion is don't waste your money and do not buy these China replacement key fobs.

I would like to replace both my fob shells as the loop is broken on both so cannot use a key ring. Does anyone know which Chinese made fob blanks are the best to buy. I am looking at these on Amazon.

Prolly a crap shoot with these cheap Chinese stuff, I get that, but figgered I would ask.

TiredRetired, I found a USA made replacement key fob for our Crossfires on Ebay. I should have ordered the USA one instead of the China made one. The China made replacement fob is pure junk. Don't buy it. Check out the USA made item on Ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-Cr...gAAOSwEeFVBOm-

It is $14.85 and $3.99 shipping. I just ordered one.

Thank you very much for the info and the link. Cheers.

I bought the American one, I received it within a couple of days. Swapped out the old one and it fit together perfectly!! The write up for it mentioned earlier in this thread made this a cinch.
This is the specific one I ordered.

It is good that some of the fobs work. Unfortunately another item we do not make here anymore. Just more misleading advertising.
Looking at Ebay I do not see anything about Made in the USA. I see USA shipper, USA stock and not cheap China plastic.

Wadsworth - The one I listed above with the Ebay link states "not cheap Taiwan or China" and "Best Quality, The Same Factory Key Fob". I ordered one. I'll post my comments when it arrives.

My replacement came from China and it worked perfectly, no problems and it was less than $5 including shipping.
It looks exactly the same as that one. They say not Chinese or Taiwanese, maybe it was made in Thailand I bet it was not made in the US or anywhere close.

Re: Replacement Key Fob - Do they work

onehundred80, The replacement key fob I received had many issues. The plastic circle that holds the batteries was badly bent and almost cut in half. The Panic button keeps falling out and doesn't align with the switch on the circuit card. The original key does not fit very well in the new replacement fob and won't let you close the two large plastic parts together. It really was a piece of junk. I photographed the issues and the seller said that he was sorry and he refunded my money.

I don’t know why but there are two different key blank widths, our cars take the narrower one. I think you may have gotten for the wider one key.

I said my one was fine, I got it some six years ago, I got two at the time. Others have said that there were problems with some of them, different makers I am sure.
I doubt that any are made in the States, probably imported and shipped from the States at a good mark up. Many items are sold like this by importers, I try to avoid buying Chinese made parts from importers, I go straight to China if possible. shipping from China is cheap and often included in the items price.
I hate to pay someone who has stopped making something here in North America, has it made in Chine then charges what he used to charge when it was made here. They got rid of their employees and use cheaper Chinese labor, so screw those bastards.

Re: Replacement Key Fob - Do they work

onehundred80 and all Crossfire owners,
I received the replacement key fob that was listed on Ebay as "not cheap Taiwan or China" and "Best Quality, The same as Factory Key Fob" today. What a difference. Much heavier plastic and very well made. All of the circuit card switches aligned with the buttons on the key fob. It stays together and was easy to transfer my electronics and key to the new fob. Very pleased. My comment to all Crossfire owners is spend a little more and keep away from the replacement key fobs that come from China.
