Default Farmer's Insurance Commercial - Crossfire

Just saw a new Farmers Insurance Commercial on TV this evening. A guy driving a red Crossfire Roadster with the top down, pulls into a parking spot. He looks above when he hears pigeons & sees them roosting on a cable directly overhead. He moves the Crossfire to a new spot, gets out & clicks the security lock on. As he walks away, a load a concrete from a crane bucket at a construction site on the other side of the fencing drops the entire load on his Crossfire. Farmers covered it! What a hoot!!

My wife and I just saw that commercial 5 minutes ago. We couldn't believe our eyes as they dumped concrete on what appeared to be a pretty clean red roadster with aftermarket wheels. I know, I know it's the digital age and maybe that was photoshopped OR it was a well worn out Crossfire. In any event, it was neat to see "our" car!

Red windshield trim, red side strakes and black roll bars. Someone had a desire to make it their own before that...

Nice wheels, and something going on in the lower grilles but can't make it out. Alarm sound not typical of a Crossfire.

It had a blacked out grill, including the chrome trim on the hood. It's too bad, but I'd like to have the monument on the pedestal at the end.

Just saw that earlier this evening too. Always nice to see our cars in the limelight. Poor Crossfire.

Looking at the video & stopping it to look over the Roadster, it appears to be a nice looking car. The overall Red color looks to be something other than OEM spec. But being a Crossfire, Farmers didn't have to pay much for it to trash it in their commercial.

And in the final scene, a pigeon got him anyway!

It speaks to the diminished value of our cars when they can destroy a very low production vehicle instead of a very high volume car like a Miata. Possibly the thought was to use a car that many would not recognize and therefore think was of significant value and therefore creating a bigger impact with the audience.

I would agree on all points. One has to admit that the Crossfire is a rarity among featured marques, currently doesn't have much residual value yet brings looks wherever it goes. The car does have an immediate impact when it first appears in the commercial. And it strikes an awesome pose when the concrete is dumped and we see the full side view of the car. And according to the Farmers commercial, it was insured!

I did not see this before. I'm OCD about parking my red roadster, and my wife will joke about it. I guess I need to show her what could happen.

Saw the ad this morning and had to do a double take when I saw the Crossfire. This confirms why I am always picky as to where I park. Thanks for downloading the ad.

Can we tell if this is digital or real??? Real is risky as its a one shot filming event, plus why not use digital. Final scene with concrete on car looks made up to me. Woody

I thought about that, too. But you can see the car sag on the front wheels as the concrete is dropped initially....and the rear wheels move slightly. Still, you can do almost anything digitally now. But would hiring a digital person to do that work cost more than the Crossfire?

It's possible that it's a totaled rust bucket or crashed that they painted up to look good enough for the commercial effect.

I would hope so. Clearly, as they are selling auto insurance, they would have easy access to one totaled under a claim like a flood. Or a couple of headlights and a hood. I like the windshield surround and fender strakes being body colored. Maybe that's a clue it had a fresh respray for the commercial.

Looks like the lower grilles have led strips on them.

Sitting here watching Motortrend TV. They just showed that commercial. I doubt they would waste good concrete for a commercial so I’m betting it was a mud mix.

I had Farmers for almost 30 years for house and cars. I found out about 5 years age when I went somewhere else I could get the same coverage for almost 1/2 of what Farmers charged.

The cost of materials (props) used in TV commercials are always a small amount of the total cost of the TV expenditure; TV advertising is incredibly expensive.

Would you like a stress test? Imagine that you're an Ad Man for a fortune 500 company, and you're asked to produce a 30 second commercial for an ad in the 2019 Superbowl: That had better be a good flippin' ad, because it will cost something in the middle to upper six figures! Your continued employment depends on this...

^^^^^^ what he said :
scenario : producer hands a flunky 40K and says go get me a 2 seat convertible for this ad, a BMW, Porshe or Ferrari or something.
Flunky ain't stupid, he Googles and lo and behold finds he can get a Crossfire convertible for 4K that looks OK and runs.
Pockets the remaining 36K and everyone is happy
