Default Considering getting some subs...

I know I don't want to change from my stock head unit. So I was wondering, what do you guys think is the best combination woofer / amp for the price. Also what size do you guys think is best for a coupe? My friend said get one 15", but maybe I want two 12". And comments? Not looking to spend a fortune. Also, will I be able to hook up an amp and more woofer into my existing head unit?

I plan on getting Pioneer Shallow subs and building a custom box to act as the false floor in the back. You don't need a massive box (6" depth is all you need) and you retain some trunk space. They come in 2 flavors 10" and 12".

I will but I managed to find one of those Nintendo Wii's a couple days ago, so I kind of blew my 'fun' money on that for the time being.

Also, does anyone have any good head units that match (green lights, silver trim)?

I don't really know if you'd say mine would match but check out my gallery for the Pioneer 4800MP.

I would hold off on getting those Pioneer shallow mount subs. At this years CES, both JL AUDIO and Rockford Fosgate had new shallow mount subs coming out. I have heard the Pioneers, and I was not impressed. I had the same idea (False Floor) and I went with JL AUDIO 6W0's. I will be changing them out to the shallow mount JL's as soon as they are released!

BLKFIN,

How do you find the bass response from the 3 6W0's? Did you check to see if they would fit behind the seats where the stock subs are?

I used to run a single AVI SL-170 in my olg GTI and was AMAZED at the amount of bass that little 6.5" would put out in a tiny .3 cubic foot box...

They rock, they are in a 1.0 cubic foot slot ported box tuned at 38 hz. I was amazed at the output from this setup. I did not even try behind the seats. Two of the subs would have fit, but I wanted to use all three of them mounted on the fiberglass plate. The subs are 12 ohms each so wiring 3 of them together created a 4 ohm load on my amp. If anyone is interested, I have one more plate and sub set up for sale. I was going to use both of them in the crossfire, but one is enough. These plates were never sold to the public. I have a friend that works at JL AUDIO and they built two of these in a training class. You will NEVER see another one...except in my car. It is painted silver...to match our trim and has 3 JL AUDIO 6WO-12's mounted in it. The plate is painted with automotive paint and clear coat!!! Very Slick!!! I will include a PDF of 2 different slot ported enclosures that can be constructed and fit in the Crossfire. The subs sell on ebay for over $100 EACH and are worth every penny. I will take $350 for the plate and the subs. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Hey BLKFIN,

Do you have any more pics of the enclosure? Doesn't look like it is very deep at all... I'd love to do something like that in my set up... What are you running for the rest of your gear and where did you mount your amp?

The enclosure is only 6.5 deep. The total measurement is 24.5 "W x 19" D x 6.5" H. It was designed to be very low profile. My other equipment is listed on my signature, and I mounted my amp behind the passengers seat. Everything is tucked away, light and most importantly, can be removed back to stock if needed.

I brought the shallow pioneer 10 myself 3 weeks back I had it mounted on a false floor it sounded ok but it wasnt all that good. Last week i was going to take it back and check out other shallow subs I went by a audio shop that just opened up around my home to check on prices. in talking with there installer he suggested a shallow custom box to fit my sub , amp and cap. 1000% difference this ten surprisingly hit hard customers looking to buy 15's at the time stopped and were surprised how good and hard it hit. I post pics in my gallery of the box and part of my system setup im still debating if im going to replace my inside speakers but having a box for the shallow sub really was the way to go the whole box is 6 inchs in total height and the sub is enclosed inside the box.

two 12s or any amount of 15s is overkill in a crossfire.

i am piecing my system together and have an idea of what i want so i will throw it out there. I want to save space my old system was slick looking but no space so i used the back seats for storage. Well with the crossfire the back seats are just not quite big enough lol.

I am going with my old carputer setup and a flipout vga lcd touch screen.
Infinity kappa perfect component
jl audio 12w7 - 1
jl 1000/1 amp
old rf 400x4 amp bridged to the components which will push around 200 to each component.
magicbox 12"

The people buying the 15 were for a truck i think but i completely agree about the 12 and 15 in a crossfire as overkill. The box and installation in total cost me 200 i think 125 or 150 for the box itself the rest was for installation which was not bad at all

I actually have a JL 12 W6 V2 subwoofer I'm about to put on ebay along with a JL 500/1 mono amp. I had them professionally installed in a previous car by Tweeter, and 3 months later had it professionally uninstalled (ie I payed them to removed it as well).

They are barely used and in excellent condition. Still have original boxes and packing materials. PM me if you are interested.

depending on the price of the setup you are selling i think the OP should consider it. the jl 500/1 is an amazing amp which is very efficient as it has a regulated power supply. The 12w6 v2 is not as good as the 12w7 but for the price and the size of the crossfire i think it will be one hell of a sub and it will pound hard being a 12w6. I wish you would have posted that up as i just picked up a 1000/1 for a 12w7. the 1000/1 would be an overkill for the 12w6.

12W7 will tare down your crossfire! I have 12W1 V2 hooked up to Alpine PDX-4.100 (two channels bridged for sub) and Alpine SPR 17-S speakers, and my car is almost going to fell apart...I would avoid W7...I tried 2x10W3 and that was....well lets say interesting My friend had in mazda 3 alpine 15" Type R sub...His stop light fell apart, and back window wiper stoped working....

the JLHD750/1 is almost over kill for the 12w6, but it is better to have more power to turn down than not enough. How does that 12W7 sound? what kind of box did you put it in? chris
