Default Stock vs. AMG intake set up

Now this IS interesting...

Went to drop off my Crossfire for my first (free) oil change at the dealer.

I left the new Magnaflow exhaust in place but pulled off the AMG air boxes and put the stock engine cover/intake tubes back on.

WOW ! BIG difference ! Car was MUCH quieter at start-up; much smoother sounding. But initial throttle response was NOT as good and it DID NOT rev as freely. I'd say I'm down at least ten horsepower with the stock set-up versus the AMG parts. Frankly I'm really surprised at the difference in performance and, most of all, SOUND !

I'm going to the strip soon now that I've gotten past the first dealer service visit. Think I'll bring along the stock intake/engine cover and see how it effects track performance. I'm pretty certain it'll back-up my subjective impressions!

Cheers,
Slim

Hey, where do you get one of those AMG set-ups. I have had my crossfire for about 3 days now and i want to get the parts i want in order. I know i want the magnaflow exhaust, i don't know what chip, but i think i want the AMG intake system like you have set-up.

Let me know about cost and where to get it.

Thank You,
Justin

Greetings, I got everything from another forum member except the intake hoses.

Here are the part numbers for this set-up...

Air intake tubes from radiator area to air boxes, Benz and Chrysler parts numbers as follows...

A 112 094 15 82
05135452AA

and

A 112 094 14 82
05135451AA

The rest are M-B/AMG numbers on the parts...

MAF "Y" pipe...A 112 090 01 29
Rt. Flex Tube...02 6367 A
Lf. Flex Tube...02 6367 B
Rt. Airbox...A 112 090 1001
Lf. Airbox...A 112 090 0901

These are probably also listed under Chrysler part numbers for SRT6 applications. A helpful parts guy or a wrecked SRT6 could confirm this !

I DO like being able to SEE the motor now!

Cheers,
Slim

That was another thing i was wondering about.

Is there a benz cover that would fit that. Intake set-up.

It isn't that i don't like the motor i just love the benz covers.

Thank You,
Justin

*EDIT*

I'm the forum member that had sold Slim the AMG kit!

by the way, this is a 100% cold air intake, Renntech Carbon Fiber airbox, and these are heat proof kevlar tubes.

Yeah, but that RennTech box and tubes cost a pretty penny...did you ever get a baseline to see how much more HP you actually got with all that cash.

I know it was used but still, even a 100% CF box still isn't cheap.

It was something like a 15-18hp gain with the CF airbox

Slim, I still need to get some cost numbers for some dyno time here in Lexington. Good luck at the strip, hopefully you can easily beat my 14.9 time from about a month ago.

I'll try and get to the track in the next couple of weeks and run both the AMG and stock intake. I hope to do better than the 14.9 time that seems the "norm" but it's going to be hot, humid July air by then so we'll see what I can do. Gonna start practicing my launch techniques until then to get consistent times.

Advanz, that carbon fiber airbox sure does look sweet ! PM me when you're ready to sell ! I can see the insulation on the intake tubes; cooler air is a very good thing this time of year. I'm sure I'm getting 10+ more Hp when it's cool in the morning or after sundown compared to 85-95 heat during the day.

Got the first oil change done yesterday. I left the Magnaflow system inplace, nobody in the service department said anything about it so I guess they got no problems about it. It really is much "tamer" with the stock intake in place. The AMG set-up goes back on this afternoon !

Ya'll have a nice weekend...

Slim

How much does one of those Renntech Cold Air kits retail for, and would it bolt right on to my '04 crossfire?

Thanks,
Justin

I'm new to this forum, looking for helpful tips. I just bought a new '06 Crossfire, and i was wanting to know the best way to add a lot of horses. I have been looking at borla exhaust, or what exhaust would sound good and would add the most HP, and a trying to find the best cold air intake. Also what about chips and programmers???

Search is your friend.

Exhausts are not going to add a lot of HP.

You want the biggest bang for the buck go for Nitrous.

Nitrous would be nice but that's a bit more for me right now. What about the cold air intake and its hard to find one, which i have looked for but still have not made my mind up yet, any good ideas. And if i did get exhaust which system would add the most??

Yes Sir, It is a altogether subjective measurement.

I'll be taking the stock set-up to a track day at my local strip once it gets a little cooler. I can swap back and forth in about five minutes. I ran it for the first time yesterday so I'm just now getting a feel for getting consistent strip times.

I'll post the results once I've had a chance to make back-to-back runs with the two different intake systems.

Hey Slim did you ever get it to the track. I'm in the process of getting a C32 setup (waiting for the other guy to get his new intake) and just seeing if you had any hard numbers. Whether it be track slips or a dyno.

BTW, if anyone wants to know, it'll cost about $300 shipped for a brand new C32 intake setup w/o filters from OEMPartsDirect.
