Stock Radio suuucks !!!
Howdy,
Ok here is the deal. I think that the stock stereo sucks. The sound is good and it has good power, but the CD skips if you hit a bump. It has no anti skip. The buttons are hard to navigate. It barely pulls any FM stations. I get static and I am 10 miles away from the tower. So I have decided my first mod will be to axe the radio. What aftermarket stereo's have the members here used? Does anyone use sat? Where do you put the antenna.
Thanks for your help,
Rob

I installed a Pioneer AVIC-2 flip screen GPS with Sirrus radio in both my limited coupe and SRT6. Both have the sirrus antenna rear center and the nav in the coupe is under the dash and unseen, and the SRT6 is center near the windshield on the dash. I reason it's visible is because the manager at circuit city said it was impossible to get a signal from under the dash antenna mount and he would not allow his tech to install it as I ask. OK, put it where you will (makes absolutely no difference in signal strength). Hope this helps a little.
I have a Pioneer DEH-P4800MP. Reason why I chose it was that it has green LEDs for the buttons so it matches the rest of the lighted areas in the car. It's also silver and matches the console nicely.
It's not the best but it's fine for what I use it for.

Kenwood flip up w/gps/NAV, sirius and DVD. Oh yea, new door speakers and an amplifier under the passenger seat. Love turning it up when I need to drowned out the idiots next to me with their windows down blasting their woofers ect. I just smile at them and they seem to get the message and usually turn the volume down to a livable level: rolleyes: LOL.
CRAZY... YES, I QUALIFY.

Old man... If you could put your top down you would not be saying it is a great stereo. You can not hardly hear it on the expressway going over 70 mph. Or for that matter roll your windows down at 70 and see how nice the stereo sounds. I tried turning my hearing aid up to its max, but it didn't help.
No, it's not a Limo, that is a true statement.

Thanks for your suggestions so far. The stereo is workable, but to me does not live up to the what it could be. That's why it is my first mod. The cd skipping is what sucks. I also posed the question because I was thinking about sat, but not want the ant sticking out.

CDs do have some advantages. I prefer to burn playlists to CD for use in my Crossfires because I don't mind leaving CDs in the car. Leaving a $400 iPod in the car is an invitation for theft. I could carry the iPod with me but then I have to carry it everywhere I go. Leaving an iPod in a hot car is also not good for it. If a CD gets hot and warps, I'll just burn another copy. If the iPod cooks, I'm out several hundred dollars.
Using CDs also means I don't have to replace the stock head unit (which sounds fine to me) nor do I have wires running all over the place to hook the iPod up to an after-market stereo. I don't need to keep an iPod charger in the car, either. The Crossfire is small enough as it is. I use plastic sleeves instead of jewel cases to cut down on the storage space required. I'd rather have a few CDs stored nicely in the center console than have a bunch of wires running everywhere.
I know there are people here who are very happy with their aftermarket head units and iPod hookups but it's not for me. I'll stick with CDs.

(I use Linux so it may be different on other OSes. Gentoo instructions are here).
