Thumbs up SVR battery first impressions

Well some of you guys have seen that I had a major current draw, after installing my amp, and sub. Since aftermarket alternators aren't an available for our cars, I opted for a better battery. I was leanning towards an optima, But all of the local audio shops recommended a different brand, SVR. I have never had an optima, so I can't say anything bad about them. But so far this SVR battery has fixed major dimming problems with lights, which were doing it before, even at say 50mph. If any you guys are having the same kind of problem, I give a thumbs up to SVR. Like I mentioned above, I have never had anything other than your average battery, So If you have an optima, or other similiar battery $$$, I have nothing against them. This one was 170, so it is in the same ballpark, as optima, or stinger, the SVR was currently available, and recommended so I took a chance, and I am happy so far. Thanks to all, who helped with my delima. Chris

Is it a straight OEM type setup? Are the poles in the same place and size.

Glad you have it sorted out.

First I have heard of this brand. Which one did you get (model #)? What is the ballpark price?

No to go off topic but can't a repair shop add some winds to the stock alternator to increase the output?

The battery acts as a reservoir for the electricity, in my mind a bigger capacity battery is best. A battery that is getting drained, no matter the size, will show the lights fluctuating with revs, as the current used is coming from the alternator. My reaction to a battery that fails just once is to get a new and if possible a bigger and better one. By bigger I mean bigger capacity.

Yes, that can be done too. Just have to take an alternator into an electric motor (or similar) shop and they can do that.

lets see size is 34/78 yellow top, and the battery was installed with the posts on the fender side of the vehicle, but still positive towards the rear. Yeah I have heard of one local shop that can rewind the alternator, but I haven't had a chance to see how hard it is to remove. It is my daily driver, so I can't let it sit. Maybe once it warms back up, and I can ride my bike again, I can think about that. And I was still on the factory battery, from 04. The price was 170 for the battery. If you do a web search for the SVR batteries, there is a long and detailed description, I believe it was in a pdf form. the battery is the same size as an optima, of the same group size, just barely taller, but other than it not facing the engine, fittment is snug. I can definately tell a difference in how the bass hits, consistant, and the headlights probably dim a little, when it is up loud, but before it was like a strobe light effect with the hid's. I just happened to get a very efficient amp, that draws a lot of current. I'll admit I kind of felt like a guinea pig with this battery, but all local shops recommended them, vs. an optima, I guess they are having enough of a problem with optima's, that they are using these around here. chris
I still need to upgrade the power to alternator wire, and engine to ground. They upgraded the battery ground during install, and ran the 4 gauge power wire for the amp directly off of the battery, instead of tapping into the distrbution block directly in front of the battery, but when asked about running the wire from there, two different shops told me that as long as it is only so many inches from the battery, it should be fine. I used my own judgment and had them change that.
