Standard Head Unit queries
Hi,
I've been enjoying my new Crossfire for the last couple of weeks. The sound system is giving me a couple of problems though! The garage from where I bought the car is going to take a look at it on Friday. In the mean time I thought I'd get some insight into the unit. The first problem I found was occasionally on starting the car I would turn the radio on and the Chrysler name would show but nothing else would happen, and the only way to get the unit to switch on fully is to turn off the ignition and restart the car, which is a bit inconvenient when you're already on a Motorway. I've looked on the forum and found that this was a problem with some head units. I rang my local Chrysler dealer and they said they would be happy to look at it... for a fee! And then they could contact Chrysler to see if they had any intention of changing the unit out. I declined of course. The dealer I bought the car from will look at the problem, though I have the distinct view that they will not be able to fix the problem. So I don't know how far they will be willing to go... a new head unit would be nice!
The second problem may not be a problem at all. But I cannot turn off the traffic news interrupting my music. I turned on the function using the TP button... I think. But now I can't turn the thing off. Pressing TP does nothing. I have read the Owner's Manual available from this forum, and it states the TP button is to mute the sound. That doesn't happen on my unit. And here in the UK I'm fairly sure TP is usually the Traffic News/Program setting, or am I wrong? Any hints would be much appreciated.
I think I have a duff head unit. Which is not really a problem if it gets changed out by the dealer. Is the unit a standard DIN size? Can an off the shelf unit be installed directly without a DIN adaptor? I think there is an ISO adaptor required for the cabling.
Ideally I'd like the dealer to go some way to agreeing to a new head unit, if not the whole way. That means I can get a unit with some extra features I'd like, such as Bluetooth hands free for my phone, and an SD card reader so I can have all my songs available without having all my discs in the glove box
