Default Fss -500

I decided to check my FSS last night by pushing in on the dash stem twice per the manual, and it displayed -500. I thought it might mean that I was 500 miles over due for an oil change which concerned me as the previous owner told me it had just been serviced and I have only put 2k on it since purchase. After getting to work this morning, I checked it again, and it still shows -500, so it is not miles unless it will not go beyond 500. What does this mean? I have not had a service light come on(wrench icon). I will be purchasing oil and filter after work today to change the oil. Thanks

It will read negative whatever.
before i reset mine is was around -17000 or so.

I got a wrench at 10k but havent gotten one since. When it counts down oil life it doesnt give you a wrench, it just flashes the miles over on the dash for about 10 seconds or so

Ahhhh.... got it. Thanks! So, it goes in 100 mile increments. My Honda Odyssey shows the actual mileage over and stays on the FSS selection while flashing until you manually change it to another selection or reset the FSS. I guess I just never paid attention to the dash when I started it up. I guess my first oil change is in my plans for this evening. LOL

Our FSS system only shows increments of 100 miles, and yes, you are 500 miles overdue or the previous owner didn't know how to reset the FSS.

Dont forget time is a factor as well. So it does depend how long ago that "2000 mile ago" change occurred.

Ok, LOL Now that I feel sufficiently like a newby, I am happy to say that my baby has new oil in her and she is happy once again.

EDIT: Oh, and I got the FSS to reset on the first try.

I know.... right! 2k miles in 8 months. It takes a while to put miles on when you do it 1/4 mile at a time.

Oh, I almost forgot. The filter that I took out was some piece of crap paper filter that said "Made in India". Whats up with that? Anyway, she now has a nice fleece blankey. LOL

I used Mobil 1 0W40, and a Bosch fleece filter. The filter is a Mann filter packaged for Bosch. Oh, and thanks to this forum, I knew to get a copper crush washer while I was at it. I was actually surprised at how easy of a job it was to do.

On a side note, I am loving the Akebono brake pads I put on this past weekend. No more brake dust. Yeahhhh!
