Car has 68,000 miles. Short version is several ounces of pure water spilled on automagic console. Now have dread P0600 and P0705, blob in shift indicator, stuck in park unless use mechanical release, shifts into gear hard, and has first gear only.


Clear codes and just come back


Am suspecting shifter needs to dry out, been several hours and removed trim & applied a hair dryer for a while. No luck. Will let it dry for another day or is this a lost cause. Any good to remove and disassemble shifter and dry everything ? YWTK.

 

And a Sunday miracle has occurred, after sitting with the console opened up overnight the shifter module is working again, guess the water evaporated. Which raises two questions:
1) Why would anyone engineer an automotive system for automotive use, particularly in a convertible, that fails when wet (and suppose fortunate we have pure rain water).
2) How can I waterproof it ?
