Bluetooth Hands Free

Has anyone installed a head end device that supports Bluetooth and therefore hands-free? There's a few recently on the market and at pretty reasonable prices.

Pioneer has some:

I think JVC also has some and likely we'll see it more and more. Wanted to see if anyone had actually done this with the XF and wondering how the road noise sounds on the listener side of the call.

I installed a Motorola IHF-1000 to the stock head unit and it works great.

I got mine on E bay. You can see it on the Motorola web site. Then go to the Becker of North America website and buy the phone wiring and plug for the radio and the head unit removal tools.

Did you install it yourself? Do you use the external speaker or does it mute & work through the radio speakers with the adapter from Becker?

Re: Bluetooth HandsFree

You know I've been thinking about replacing the stock head unit for a while. I'm not a fan that I can't use direct inputs for my GPS and MP3 player with the stock.

Also, it seems worth it to me to buy a $300 head end that already has the mic and bluetooth built in.

Looks like Sony also has a new head end (the 5,000) that supports the bluetooth streaming profile. Meaning pretty much all the new cell phone mp3 players can wirelessly connect with full head end control of the cell phone (it basically becomes a wireless storage device).

But glad to hear that the road noise doesn't kill the call.

I installed it myself. It does mute the radio. The radio display says PHONE and the audio comes thru the car speakers or the one that comes with the unit. For the audio to come from the car speakers you just have to set the phone audio to on. The procedure is in the manual that came with the car. Or you can download the entire radio manual from the Becker website.

Thanks. I have the manuals but I will talk to you more about it in Carlisle.

I'm hoping to install an IHF1000 myself. Curious - where did you mount the control module, keypad and mic? Any pictures?

Thanks.

I don't have any pictures but the mic is mounted just in front of the garage door opener. The control module is under the radio. The control buttons are above the radio and just under the air vents. You will love it, it works great.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just ordered the IHF1000 today, and will contact Becker next week to order the wiring adapter.

Hey, thanks for the recommendations. I got the IHF1000 installed Saturday morning. It took about 4 hours, but I took my time with location and wire routing (also ate lunch part way through). :p

It works great and my friends are all jealous...which is what it's all about anyway, right?

It is the best system out there that you get as a add on. I put one in a friends BMW and all I had to do is plug it in all of the wiring was in the car. The dealer wanted about $2,000.00 for the hands free kit when he got the car. That is the system BMW puts in.
I got mine for almost a year now and I am very happy with it. Still works great...

The Becker Part number for the Bluetooth harness is BNA.1319-116. I called Becker of NA today and they said that the harness was on a backorder for 3-4 weeks. So, here comes the waiting game.

That's too bad. When I got mine it didn't have a P/N They just made it up for me the same day that I called. Then gave it the P/N. But that was a long time ago. I was the first to get it.

I also installed a bluetooth IHF-1000. If you run into any problems with installation, let me know and I'll walk you through it. It works great and is very clean looking. I bought my motorola IHF-1000 off ebay...$183 shipped brand new.

Thanks Alot!!!

Do either of you have pics of the placement of the keypad?

Re: Bluetooth Hands Free

I placed my keypad to the left of the steering wheel, right above the a/c vent. I pulled out the a/c vent which also goes around the headlight switch. I ran the wire through there and then pushed the a/c vent back into place. Looks very clean. I will try and post a picture soon.

I installed a Parrot CK3000 Evo in my Xfire, also works great (paired to a PDA), Same as the Motorola but £50 cheaper and it comes with the complete ISO wiring harness. Its all plug and play (just make sure you connect the mute wire correctly otherwise you can deploy the spoiler by phoning your car (but on the other hand... :D).
